I’m Comrade Abideen Olakunle Oriyomi, son of Alaka. My family hails from Oyo. I was born on the 30th of August 1997. Primary education at Ansar-Ud-Deen Nursery and Primary school Owode egba. Secondary education at Owode high school 2008-2014. After my secondary school, i was a school teacher at AFRISINAL INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL for a period of 1 year. I gained admission into Ogun state college of health technology ilese ijebu ode (oscohtech) in 2015 to study HEALTH INFORMATION MANAGEMENT (HIM) and graduated in 2017 with ND. I proceeded to UCH Ibadan to take up my I.T. During that course, I went to an Arabic school DAARU-FALLAH WA SALAM ARABIC SCHOOL, OWODE EGBA. Also, I’m a graphic designer and typist. I learnt that at GIGABYTE COMPUTER SCHOOL, I started at the year 2012 and graduated in 2014. I later gained admission to OSCOHTECH to further my education on HND Program in 2018.
I have lots of nickname in my secondary school days like “ALAKSON.A.”, “MAN LIKE DEEN”, then to “RESOURCEFUL DEEN”. But the main one I’m using is “MAN LIKE DEEN”.
WHAT BROUGHT ABOUT THE NICKNAME?
The reason is that there may be lot of ABIDEEN out there but no one can be like me. So the full meaning is “THERE IS NO MAN LIKE DEEN”.
WHAT PROMPTED YOU TO COMPETE AS THE NAHIMS NATIONAL PRESIDENT?
The interest of Nigeria students in particular. I was born and brought up by a seasoned Comrade which is my FATHER. I have contested for NAHIMS Vice President in my school and I know what the school needed. This Student Union should be the Union of the students, for the students and by the students and not the other way round.
What really prompted me is that, why will it be only students from Teaching Hospitals are the only one leading us while there are students from college of Health. If it’s a taboo that college of Health should not contest, I want to break it. Secondly, I want to put an end to the act of dictatorship and adopt that of representation. STUDENTS ARE OUGHT TO BE REPRESENTED AND NOT TO BE RULED.
I’m going there for the interest of Nigerian students. I’m not ready to sell my students all because of my own selfish interest simply because if we did not see each other today, we’ll meet in the future. (Yoruba says ‘omi leyan), they’ll be like this is the NAHIMS PRESIDENT THAT FAILED US.
WHAT IS YOUR VISION AND MISSION AS THE NAHIMS NATIONAL PRESIDENT TO BE?
I’m looking toward a NAHIMS that I will come back and feel fulfilled that this is the NAHIMS I planned for. “I believe so much in leaders”.
I want to govern in a way that will bring all the 6 geopolitical zones and chapters together.
I want NAHIMS to become “One Big Family” and some other mission ‘ti a o le gbe sori afefe’. I want to build an association that everyone will feel part of it.
YOUR POLITICAL VIEW?
I am a Politician and I love politics. If we look at Nigeria now, some of our leaders started from somewhere because you can’t just wake up and say you want to lead people, so it will be good if you can start from student politics to general politics, you would not have any problem by then. So if you can cope being a student leader, you can cope over there.
YOUR FAVORITE QUOTE?
“No Dream is too big and No Dreamer is too small”.
I love praying to GOD, reading my Quran, listening to Music. I so a little bit sport (i.e volley ball) but I’m still a learner though, and I like traveling. As small as I am, I have been to eleven states in Nigeria (Lagos, Ogun, Kwara, Ekiti, Ondo, Oyo, Delta, Akwa-ibom, Enugu, Edo and Imo).
THE REASON BEHIND YOUR FAVORITE COLOR?
I was born as a Muslim and the color we do wear to Mosque is White.
YOUNG PEOPLE HAVE ENGAGED IN THIS ELECTION IN GREATER NUMBERS THAN EVER BEFORE. HOW WILL YOU KEEP THEM ENGAGED?
Keeping young people engaged in this is by encouraging them by telling them that they can do better.
WHAT ARE THE FIRST THREE THINGS YOU’RE GOING TO DO TO RAISE NAHIMS CONFIDENCE ONCE YOU’RE IN OFFICE?
– I’m going to work with 3 people who are STAKEHOLDERS, SENATORS (CHAPTERS AND ZONAL PRESIDENTS) AND THE STUDENTS. Carrying them along especially the stakeholders. I will execute a program that has never happened before (i.e a seminar), I will call it ” a get together” program to bring everyone back.
– Working with the HIM board in an effective way to the students (i.e I will not be more friendly to the board than my students).
– Program- standout. Working effectively with the Board, though it may look ineffective to the students.
HOW WILL YOU SPEND QUIET TIME IN ANTICIPATION OF A TOUGH DECISION?
I don’t soliloquize. I will just come home and take a shower with cold water, after then I rest my head and start thinking on the way out and I will take my own and start jotting down.
WHAT COULD CAUSE YOU TO FAIL AS THE PRESIDENT?
If I perform below my people’s expectations.
IF YOU COULD CHANGE THREE THINGS ABOUT BEING AT THE NAHIMS NATIONAL PRESIDENT, WHAT WOULD THEY BE AND HOW WOULD YOU DO IT?
-Dress sense of my students that it will be to my credit.
-We would try as much as possible to let them know the ethics of this profession.
-I will change the motive of people by calling us “CARD ISSUER”. We are not card issuer, we are “HEALTH RECORD OFFICER”.
PLEASE DESCRIBE IN 30 WORDS WHY STUDENTS SHOULD VOTE YOU AS #1?
‘By God’s grace, mercy, power and love, I will stand firm to defend the right of the students even if the oppressing power of the oppressors stand to overcome us’.
IF ELECTED, WHAT WOULD BE YOUR TOP PRIORITY, AND HOW YOU WOULD GO ABOUT REALISTICALLY ADDRESSING IT?
My top priority is seeing my students coming out in flying colors after their Board exam.
WHAT IS ONE COUNCIL EXPENDITURE YOU THINK IS IMPORTANT AND WHAT IS ONE THAT CONCERNS YOU?
Where we are going to spend most on is “Welfarism”. We should at least reach out to our students every three three months. Traveling- the reason is I want to hear from them. You need to come back home to know what people are lacking and meeting their needs. But if we don’t gear from our people, who will they cry on?.
As national, we’ll be earning income from them while they pay their dues. They shouldn’t be the one to pay and still come to complain. So transportation will take most of our money.
WHAT ARE YOUR FIVE CORE VALUES AND HOW DO THEY SHAPE HOW YOU LEAD?
– I’m a straight forward person. I don’t beat around the bush.
– Faithful (eniyan o gbodo ma yin ara re). Faithfulness is in my blood.
– Vibrancy: I myself know that I’m vibrant.
– Respect: I have respect for all.
