Christian Pulisic and Willian gave Chelsea a 2-1 win over Manchester City, crowning Liverpool Premier League champions.
Liverpool are Premier League champions after Manchester City were beaten 2-1 by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Thursday.
Pep Guardiola’s side had the chance to prolong the Reds’ 30-year wait at least until the two sides meet at the Etihad Stadium next week, but the title was within touching distance when Christian Pulisic gave Frank Lampard’s side a 36th-minute lead.
Kevin De Bruyne’s spectacular free-kick brought City level and Raheem Sterling hit the post, but their vulnerability on the break was eventually punished when Fernandinho handled in a desperate 75th-minute goalmouth scramble.
27′ Barkley’s powerful shot blocked by Fernandinho
The ball falls to Barkley after a poor clearance from Laporte following a low cross into the box by Alonso from the left. Barkley smashes it towards goal, but Fernandinho gets across and makes a vital block just in time to turn it out of play for a corner.
36′ GOAL! Chelsea 1-0 Man City (Pulisic)
A fantastic counter-attack by Chelsea but it comes after an awful mistake on the halfway line, with Mendy and Gundogan both leaving the ball to each other and Pulisic nicks it off them, races through on goal and then slides it into the bottom right-hand corner of the net.
55′ GOAL! Chelsea 1-1 Man City (De Bruyne)
De Bruyne gets the ball over the wall and it dips straight into the top left-hand corner of the net, giving Kepa no chance of saving it. We have a very interesting game on our hands now.
57′ OFF THE POST! Sterling nearly scores
Sterling strikes the woodwork after a superb counter-attack by City. Ederson plays the ball out quickly and within three passes, City are in the penalty area. Sterling only had Kepa to beat, but he sees his shot strike the post and then Chelsea clear the danger.
71′ Walker makes goal-line clearance to deny Pulisic
Pulisic goes incredibly close to putting Chelsea ahead again! The winger breaks through on goal once again, this time he rounds Ederson, he takes a little knock from the keeper, then slides the ball towards goal and it seems to be a certain goal. However Walker does brilliantly to slide in on the line and block the shot, clearing the danger. The referee looked at his goal line technology watch, but nothing happens, no goal.
77′ Red Card! Fernandinho sent off after VAR check
Fernandinho is sent off after blocking the shot on the goal line, denying Chelsea a goal. The defender has no complaints about the decision and now Chelsea have the opportunity to take the lead once again.
78′ Penalty Goal! Chelsea 2-1 Man City (Willian)
Willian converts from the penalty spot to send the hosts back into the lead, he sends Ederson the wrong way, placing the ball high into the net.
