Arturo Vidal underestimates Bayern

Arturo Vidal has warned Bayern Munich to expect a tougher test than usual when they face Barcelona on Friday evening.

The Chilean will go up against his former club when the two European heavyweights meet in the Champions League quarter-finals in Lisbon.

“[Friday] is the most important game of the season,” Vidal said in his pre-match press conference.

“We’re really hoping to go through.

“Bayern come into it off the back of a spectacular season – they’re cup and Bundesliga champions.

“We know that it’ll be difficult, but it’ll be a great game.

“If we do what we have to do, we’ll go through.

“It’ll be a tight game.”

Bayern figures, such as Lothar Matthaus, have hinted that the German side are strong favourites for the clash.

“I haven’t paid much attention [to the comments] because I know the people at Bayern and what they say off the pitch isn’t what the players think,” Vidal added.

“They’re confident but they should know that they won’t be playing against a Bundesliga team [on Friday].

“They’ll be playing against Barcelona.”

Vidal also addressed the pessimism around Barcelona’s chances of progressing.

“I know that the fans have their doubts,” he continued.

“We’re the best team in the world, but we haven’t shown that on the pitch and we lost LaLiga.

“We have Leo [Messi] and other top players and we want to show that.”

Robert Lewandowski’s recent form has seen him mentioned in the same breath as Messi.

“Lewandowski is extraordinary, tireless and very dangerous,” Vidal said about his former teammate.

“I’ve seen him grow, how he prepared and it will be really tough to mark him.

“It’s very difficult to compare him to Leo because Messi is from another planet.”
