Jeffren Suarez has called on Lionel Messi to move to a club where he can be happy.
The Argentine handed in a transfer request to Barcelona on Tuesday and has been linked with a move to a number of clubs outside of Spain.
“Messi is a big Barcelona fan – has been since he was young,” Jeffren told Radio MARCA.
“Something very big must have happened for him to want to leave the club of his life.
“It’s been two or three years that he hasn’t been laughing like before.
“He was always happy with his teammates and I haven’t seen that for some time.
“He must be fed up and I perfectly understand if he leaves for a club where he’s happy.”
Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are one of the teams said to be interested in signing Messi this summer.
“They get on very well,” Jeffren said on the relationship between his former coach and teammate.
“I don’t know how [their relationship] ended up like because I left beforehand, but Messi rated Pep a lot and Guardiola knew that he had the best in history with him.”
