Rakitic is officially a Sevilla player once again after his presentation on Thursday.

The Croatian midfielder spent six years at Barcelona – winning 13 trophies – after moving north from Andalusia in 2014.

“The time had come for me to leave Barcelona,” Rakitic told El Partidazo de COPE and Radio MARCA.

“I’m going back to Sevilla with excitement, and I’m looking forward to getting started and helping the team.

“[Lionel] Messi and I were not best friends, but we always got along.

“He didn’t talk to me about his departure. I found out in the press.”

Rakitic was also asked if he felt Arturo Vidal had played more in his position because of his friendship with Messi.

“I don’t know,” he said.

“I was always available to play, and decisions were made that I didn’t understand.

“But I went along with them for the team.”
