Philippe Coutinho returned to training with Barcelona on Friday.
The 28-year-old spent last season on loan at Bayern Munich, where he won the Champions League as part of the treble.
The German club, however, decided not to exercise their 120 million euro option to buy the Brazilian.
So, Coutinho now has the difficult task of convincing new Blaugrana coach Ronald Koeman of his worth.
A number of English clubs have enquired about the talented midfielder – including Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal – and Coutinho is said to be keen on a return to the Premier League.
But his 15 million euro annual wage packet could prove a sticking point.
The most likely option would seem to be another loan deal, but until then he will continue under the supervision of his new Dutch boss.
