‘WAP’ – Cardi B back Kylie Jenner’s Cameo in music video after over 64,000 signs petition.

The music video for Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s single ‘WAP’ was the talk of the weekend, but there has still been one point of controversy.

In the video, the two singers explore a lush mansion filled with tigers and snakes, while artists including Normani and Rosalía make appearances. In another cameo, reality star Kylie Jenner appears strutting down a hallway and opening a door, which many took to Twitter to complain about.

Jenner’s appearance has become so fiercely debated in fact, that a petition calling to have her removed from the music video has received over 64,000 signatures.

The reason? “The video was perfect until we saw K and I wanted to throw my phone,” the petition’s description says.

She is a culture vulture who doesn’t remember how her own complexion looks! Down with the culture vultures!

Fans online questioned Jenner’s presence in the music video, considering her lack of dancing and singing ability. Others argued that Jenner has repeatedly appropriated Black culture, and that her airtime should have gone to an up-and-coming artist of colour like Rubi Rose, Mulatto and Sukihana, who also appeared in the video.

One fan even took it upon herself to edit Jenner out of the video entirely.

In a series of now deleted tweets, Cardi came to Jenner’s defence, saying that “not everything is about race.”

Why did I put Kylie on my music video? She treated my sister and daughter so lovely at her kid’s birthday party.

Even if it is controversial, Jenner’s cameo has certainly started a conversation. Like they say, there is no such thing as bad press.

Elbow agrees to perform one-off gig for Live music campaign.

Elbow have agreed to perform a one-off gig in Manchester to help raise money for grassroots music venues.

Front man Guy Garvey said he was “very proud to be involved” in the Passport: Back To Our Roots initiative.

Everything Everything, Public Service Broadcasting and The Slow Readers Club will also give concerts once gigs are permitted with no social distancing.

Tickets to the concerts can be won via a prize draw that opens on 17 August and runs for two weeks.

Elbow will perform at Night & Day Cafe in Manchester, while Public Service Broadcasting will play at The Amersham Arms in New Cross, south-east London.

Everything Everything will play at Bedford Esquires and The Slow Readers Club will play at The Trades Club in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire.

“This is a simple way of looking after the very roots of British music and will result in some powerful, joyous shows when we can at last see each other again,” said Garvey.

The Music Venue Trust (MVT) will receive 80% of the money raised.

The remaining 20% will go to the Inner City Music charity, which operates not-for-profit Manchester venue Band on the Wall.

Everything Everything have also agreed to perform on an as yet unspecified date

Last month the MVT welcomed the news that up to 150 small music venues in England would share £2.25m in emergency government funding.

The organisation had previously warned that around 80% of its member venues could be forced to close as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

“We are not complacent and are under no illusions that there still many challenges to overcome,” said the trust’s CEO and founder Mark Dayvd.

He called Passport: Back To Our Roots “an excellent and timely initiative that will help keep a spotlight on what still needs to be done”.

Disney owes me $100m – Wizkid

Singer Wizkid has taken to social media where he revealed that Disney owes him $100 million.

This might be connected to his contribution to the Beyonce album The Lion King: The Gift.

Wizkid and other african artistes starred in the album which is the soundtrack to the Lion King animation by Disney.

The soundtrack album now has a visual titled Black is King.

Childish Gambino, Kendrick Lamar, Pharrell, Jay-Z and Blue Ivy Carter all made appearances on the set.

A release promised that the visual album will highlight “the voyages of Black families, throughout time” and tell the story of “a young king’s transcendent journey through betrayal, love and self-identity. Black Is King is an affirmation of a grand purpose, with lush visuals that celebrate Black resilience and culture.”

Beyonce drops “Black is King” visual Album

Beyonce’s highly anticipated visual album, Black Is King, arrived in early hours of Friday morning (July 31), premiering on Disney+ about a year after the 2019 release of the Lion King remake, which Beyonce voiced Nala in.

Black Is King includes a cast of notable and familiar faces, such Yemi Alade, Shatta Wale, WizKid, Lupita Nyong’o, Kelly Rowland, Pharrell Williams and JAY-Z, and moves across the world — from New York, to Los Angeles, South Africa, different parts of West Africa, to London and Belgium

On Instagram, Beyoncé shared that the film is meant to “celebrate the breadth and beauty of Black ancestry.”

“I typically keep comments short and sweet, but I just watched the trailer with my family and I’m excited. 🎶please don’t get me hype🎶🤪 “Black Is King” is a labor of love. It is my passion project that I have been filming, researching, and editing day and night for the past year. I’ve given it my all and now it’s yours. It was originally filmed as a companion piece to “The Lion King: The Gift” soundtrack and meant to celebrate the breadth and beauty of Black ancestry. I could never have imagined that a year later, all the hard work that went into this production would serve a greater purpose.
The events of 2020 have made the film’s vision and message even more relevant, as people across the world embark on a historic journey. We are all in search of safety and light. Many of us want change. I believe that when Black people tell our own stories, we can shift the axis of the world and tell our REAL history of generational wealth and richness of soul that are not told in our history books.
With this visual album, I wanted to present elements of Black history and African tradition, with a modern twist and a universal message, and what it truly means to find your self-identity and build a legacy.
I spent a lot of time exploring and absorbing the lessons of past generations and the rich history of different African customs. While working on this film, there were moments where I’ve felt overwhelmed, like many others on my creative team, but it was important to create a film that instills pride and knowledge.
I only hope that from watching, you leave feeling inspired to continue building a legacy that impacts the world in an immeasurable way. I pray that everyone sees the beauty and resilience of our people.
This is a story of how the people left MOST BROKEN have EXTRAORDINARY gifts.❤️✊🏾 Thank you to Blitz, Emmanuel, Ibra, Jenn, Pierre, Dikayl, Kwasi and all the brilliant creatives. Thank you to all at Disney for giving this Black woman the opportunity to tell this story.
This experience has been an affirmation of a grander purpose. My only goal is that you watch it with your family and that it gives you pride.”

Produced by Beyoncé’s production company, Parkwood Entertainment, Black is King also includes four full-length videos for the tracks “Already,” “Brown Skin Girl,” “Mood 4 Eva” and “My Power,” which was featured in the latest trailer.

‘Whole New Mess’ – Angel Olsen announces her new Album

‘Whole New Mess’ is the stripped down companion piece that was part of the conversation around last year’s ‘All Mirrors’.

It’s out on August 28 through Jagjaguwar and was recorded with Michael Harris at The Unknown, the church turned studio created by Mount Eerie’s Phil Elverum and producer Nicholas Wilbur.

“I hadn’t been to The Unknown, but I knew about its energy. I wanted to go sit with the material and be with it in a way that felt like a residency,” Olsen says. “I didn’t need a lot, since it was just me and a guitar. But I wanted someone else there to hold me accountable for trying different things.”

Nine of its songs share DNA with ‘All Mirrors’ tracks, but Olsen points out that they’re not demos. ‘Whole New Mess’, a press release adds, “is its own record with its own immovable mood.” Stream director Ashley Connor’s video for the title track below.

Storyline: Kylie Minogue prepares for new Album in November

According to The Sun, the Australian pop star will debut new single “Say Something” this Thursday (23 July) ahead of the launch of her 15th studio album.

The record was described as a “disco classic” that will mark a departure from Minogue’s last country-inspired album Golden, which topped the UK album charts following its 2018 release.

It comes as rumoured information about the album appeared on social media on Tuesday (21 July) after “leaking” on Amazon Italy.

The new album is allegedly titled Disco and will be released on 6 November, although this is yet to be confirmed by Minogue’s representatives. The Independent has approached them for comment.

In May, Minogue, 52, revealed that she had been recording new music from her living room during lockdown, saying: “I’ve been really busy, setting up a home studio (AKA, my lounge room!) and learning so much about remote recording.

“It’s been a steep learning curve for all the team as there are technical obstacles to navigate but I’m so thankful to be able to continue work on my album in this way. I’ve been riding the emotional wave along with the rest of the world, but creativity has been a big help,” she said

Fender reveal first ever custom shop meteora

When Fender’s Meteora first broke cover back in January 2018, it turned a lot of heads – not just because of its radical offset design, but also because it was a brand-new electric guitar body shape for Fender. And that outline looks to be gaining in popularity, as Fender unveils its first-ever Custom Shop Meteora.

This retro-future-vibed instrument was Master Built by Principal Master Builder Ron Thorn. Master Built instruments are the highest-end guitars to come out of the Custom Shop, showcasing the skills of Fender’s top luthiers.

For his take on the Meteora, Thorn spec’d an ash body in Closet Classic White Blonde lacquer finish, complemented by a quartersawn maple neck and rosewood fingerboard.

That neck features a ’60s C carve profile, bone nut and American Pro tuners, while the fingerboard comes fitted with pearloid block inlays, a 9.5” radius and 6105 frets.

As opposed to previous Meteoras’ Tele or dual-humbucker pickup configurations, this Master Built offering leans more towards vintage, Gretsch-esque tones, courtesy of TV Jones Classic and Classic Plus pickups.

So far, the Meteora has only been available as a limited-edition offering in Fender’s Alternate Reality and Parallel Universe line-ups, but could this Master Built seal of approval see its instatement as a full-time production model? We can only hope.

In the meantime, if you’re keen to pick up this particular example, it’s available over at Canada’s Lauzon Music for $10,999 CAD (approx $8,000).

Natalie will regret not up for ‘Harvey Weinstein’

The singer and her bandmates, now known as The Chicks, were in the room when the disgraced movie mogul took Barbara Kopple and Cecilia Peck to task over the film’s climax, insisting he wanted a happy ending.

“He was standing, screaming at them,” The Chicks’ Martie Maguire told The Guardian. “We were all dumbfounded.”

But frontwoman Maines admits she will never forgive herself for not speaking out, adding: “It was one of the scariest meetings we’ve ever had. I really wish I could be back in that room and go, ‘Listen, motherf**ker, don’t you talk to our directors like that’.

“I know first-hand how scary that man can be. He was definitely getting off on belittling them, because it was completely unnecessary and abusive.”

Back in March, Weinstein was sentenced to serve 23 years in a New York state prison for sexual assault and third-degree rape.

‘It wasn’t me’ Prince Harry sang to Shaggy

The 35-year-old prince met the 51-year-old singer – who has two sons from a previous relationship and three daughters with wife Rebecca – in the ‘Oh Carolina’ hitmaker’s native Jamaica and impressed the musician with a rendition of his raunchy single.

Shaggy said: ”When Prince Harry came to Jamaica he came to visit the Bustamante Hospital for Children.

”My daughter thought he was supposed to be a prince on a horse, like in her storybook.

”He turned to me and said, ‘Wow, she’s just so not impressed’, and then he sang, ‘It Wasn’t Me’. So Prince Harry is a Shaggy fan!”

Shaggy is hopeful Harry’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, is also a fan.

He told Observer magazine: ”I’d like to think that the Queen is a big Shaggy fan. I played at her 92nd birthday party at the Royal Albert Hall.

”Afterwards I was standing right beside her. It would have been crazy if she was like, ‘Hello, Mr Boombastic’. ”

Meanwhile, although the ‘Angel’ singer isn’t a ”big weed smoker”, he thinks the world would be a much calmer place if its leaders smoked marijuana.

He said: ”I’m not a big weed smoker. I’m more into cigars. I just don’t like the smoke in my lungs.

”Do you see any violent weed smokers? Most avid weed smokers just look like they are half-asleep and get the munchies.

”Imagine if every single world leader smoked weed, how calm would they be? Boris needs a spliff. Trump needs to go and hang out with the Rastafarians in Jamaica to come down off that high horse.”

My Dad, Eddie Van Halen not done performing – Wolfgang suggested

The ‘Jump’ rockers haven’t toured since 2015 and the band’s singer David Lee Roth recently claimed in an interview with the New York Times that they are unlikely to reunite for a tour again.

He said: ”I don’t know that Eddie is ever really going to rally for the rigours of the road again. I don’t even want to say I’ve waited — I’ve supported for five years. Because what I do is physical as well as musical and spiritual — you can’t take five years off from the ring. But I did. And I do not regret a second of it.

”He’s a band mate. We had a colleague down. And he’s down now for enough time that I don’t know that he’s going to be coming back out on the road. You want to hear the classics? You’re talking to him.”

However, Wolfgang, 29 – who plays bass for the band – has responded on Instagram and hit out at the claims.

Commenting on the article, he wrote: ”Yeah I don’t really think that’s up for him to decide.”

Eddie has suffered with poor health in recent times, with David stating earlier this year that he was ”not doing well”.

The latter remarked that the 65-year-old guitar legend’s health was not good, and suggested his performing ability deteriorated because he hasn’t been active since their last reunion tour five years ago.

David claimed: ”Ed’s not doing well, and singing and dancing is a perishable skill.

”If you have the capacity, it’s something that has to be used routinely, if not for the thrill of it and the magic of creating with other incandescent spirits.”

The ‘Hot for Teacher’ rocker did not address reports Eddie had allegedly been battling cancer again.

In November, it was claimed the musician was admitted to a medical facility suffering from intestinal issues and abdominal pain, with sources telling TMZ the rocker had experienced a bad reaction to the drugs he is taking to fight throat cancer, but was said to be doing fine.

Ozzy is starting work on his new Album – Sharon Osbourne

Sharon says Ozzy’s health is getting better every day and reveals the Black Sabbath icon is working once again with Andrew Watt on the follow-up to Ordinary Man

Sharon Osbourne says Ozzy is staring work on the follow-up to this year’s Ordinary Man and has hooked up once again with Andrew Watt for the project.

NRM learnt earlier this year that Ozzy Osbourne was planning to start work on a new album as soon as he could – now his wife and manager Sharon says, “You can’t stop him. He’s doing it.”

Speaking with Steve-O’s Wild Ride, Sharon reveals: “He’s starting his second album with Andrew Watt right now. And you can’t stop him. He’s doing it.”

She also spoke about Ozzy’s health after the Black Sabbath icon fell at home last year, aggravating an old injury he sustained during his 2003 ATV accident which in turn exacerbated his Parkinson’s disease.

Sharon says: “He’s doing really good. He had a terrible injury and at one point, they thought he would never walk again, but he is. He’s walking and doing great. He’s been hit by so much medically, but he’s doing good. He’s getting stronger every day.

“To be hit with the spinal injury, and then what it had done was, it started off the Parkinson’s that he had the gene for but was never activated. He just had the gene.

“It’s like having the breast cancer gene but it never comes into fruition. He had the Parkinson’s gene and this accident just sparked it off. So he had a double dose of everything. But he’s doing good.”

As for touring again, Sharon reports: “Ozzy says that as far as performing goes, he has to end it his way because it was his farewell tour he was on, but he still had a year to do of that tour, but the accident stopped it all.

“He said it’s not going to end just like that. He’s going to go back out, and even if it’s just one huge show to say goodbye, he’s going to do it.”

Ozzy was due to kick off his rescheduled No More Tours 2 shows in Atlanta back in May, but the dates were postponed to allow the singer to seek medical treatment in Switzerland. However, his trip was put on hold due to the pandemic.

Ellie Goulding’s Album inspired by ‘an’ art exhibition

The 33-year-old singer named her new record ‘Brightest Blue’ following a period of ”self discovery” in New York, where she had been feeling lost and homesick, but unexpectedly found a surge of happiness when she visited a gallery in the Big Apple.

She explained: ”I’d visited an exhibition by this guy called Doug Wheeler and it was this bright blue room.

”I was homesick at the time and my identity was tied up with touring and music but I wasn’t on the road and in one place. So it was a period of real self-discovery, so when I saw this blue, I had this feeling of happiness.”

The ‘Starry Eyed’ hitmaker hopes the record has an individual sound and thinks it will fit in with the pop music being produced in both the UK and the US.

She said: ”I didn’t want my album to sound like anything else and there’s a lot more soul to this album and I think that is a combination of personal growth and always evolving. Pop music is very different here and in the US, and I fit into both.”

Ellie felt nervous about releasing the deeply personal album, which is her first since 2015 ‘Delirium’, but knows the time is right and waiting any longer would have been ”completely ridiculous”.

Ellie Goulding

She said: ”Any earlier wouldn’t have been right and any later would have been completely ridiculous.

”The past five years have been really crucial for my mental health and have got me to where I am now.

”I am in a pretty chilled place and I’m ready to enjoy it.”
