He said the doctors confirmed his negative status after running the test twice.

[Nigeria] Akeredolu, Buhari’s govt the same – Pastor Giwa

Senior Pastor of Awaiting The Second Coming Of Jesus Christ Ministry, Adewale Giwa has described the administration of the Ondo State governor, Rotimi Akeredolu as the most insincere and selfish the state has ever witnessed.

Giwa claimed that Akeredolu was governing Ondo State the same way President Muhammadu Buhari was ruling Nigeria.

He said Akeredolu’s administration also lacked accountability.

The pastor who spoke while addressing his members also pointed out that Akeredolu can only win the coming All Progressives Congress, APC, primary election through the back door.

He said indirect primary was the only form of election that could make Akeredolu get the ticket of the All Progressives Congress.

The cleric said the people of Ondo State had made up their minds to vote out the administration of Akeredolu.

A statement he signed and sent to Media reads: “As you all know, we have been experiencing bad governance in Ondo State since Governor Akeredolu and his family took over.

Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu

“We have never experienced this kind of senseless and selfish government before. No accountability, no sincerity. What kind of government is this?

“They are governing Ondo State the way president Buhari is ruling Nigeria. Let me tell you that governor Akeredolu can only get the ticket of the party through the back door.

“He can only win the ticket of his political party through indirect primary election. If he rigs himself in through the indirect primary, the people of Ondo State will vote him out through the governorship election.

“The primary election is meant for politicians or party loyalists while the citizens of the state determine who wins the governorship election.

“APC should forget Ondo State if Akeredolu secures the ticket of the party. Ondo people cannot continue to serve Governor Akeredolu, his children, wife and in-laws.”

Update: Ajayi Agboola may suffer impeachment

Following the running battle between the embattled Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi and his boss, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, all might have been concluded for the impeachment of Ajayi.

NRM gathered that the impeachment proceedings against Ajayi might commence on Monday at the hallowed chamber of the Ondo State House of Assembly.

This was sequel to the sudden recall of the 26 lawmakers who had been on recess to immediately resume legislative duties at the Assembly.

The Clerk of the Assembly, Mr. Bode Adeyelu had in a short message sent to the legislators directed them to ensure compliance with the directive given by the Speaker, Bamidele Oleyelogun.

The message reads, “This is to inform all Honourable Members of the Ondo State House of Assembly that following the expiration of your RECESS on Friday, 3rd July, 2020, l have been directed by the Rt. Honourable Speaker Oleyelogun Bamidele David to enjoin you to resume for Legislative duties on Monday, 6th July, 2020.

“All Honourable members are to please treat this information as very important.”

According to an impeccable source among the legislators who craved anonymity, top on the agenda of what will be deliberated at the floor of the House will be the trending issues in the state, particularly the deputy governor’s saga.

The source added that it is likely that the Assembly might initiate impeachment proceedings against Ajayi.

Recall with Noble Reporters Media that two weeks ago, Ajayi defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to run for the governorship ticket of the party even as he insisted that he will not resign his position as deputy governor.

But Akeredolu over the weekend made a formal declaration foreclosing the consideration of handing over governance to Ajayi following the COVID-19 positive status of Akeredolu with the deputy governor giving his boss 21 days ultimatum to handover to him as acting governor.

Ajayi had accused his boss of doling out N10 million to entice each of the lawmakers in a bid to meet the requirement of two-third majority, that is about 18 out of the 26 lawmakers in the state in order for the impeachment to scale through.

OndoDecide’20: Akeredolu distance himself from ‘Aketi Whiskey’

The Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, on Saturday dismissed reports linking him with branded bottles of whiskey seen on social media platforms.

The bottle of whiskey allegedly carrying the Ondo State logo and labelled “Aketi Whiskey” has been touted as part of Akeredolu’s second term campaign strategy.

However, in a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Ojo Oyewamide and titled: “Plan To Blackmail Akeredolu With Customized Whisky Uncovered,” the governor said he knew nothing about the whiskey bottle and described the claim as a plot by his political detractors to blackmail him.

He urged members of the public to disregard the report.

Akeredolu added that the plot by those behind the production of the whiskey would not be successful.

The statement read: “For the avoidance of doubt, Mr. Governor does not require to produce customized drinks of that nature for his re-election. Neither has he commissioned any associate, friend, or even aides to embark on such a wasteful venture.

“This is more so, that Governor Akeredolu’s modest and non-ostentatious lifestyle has never been in doubt.

“It appears inconceivable to pre-empt the outcome of any investigation in respect of this distasteful act. All the same, it is pertinent to let the general public know that those behind this grand plot are desperate power-mongers who will stop at nothing to create despicable and imaginary scenarios to play their game.”

Ridiculous! – Akeredolu replies APC after telling him to step down as Ondo Gov.

The Ondo State Government has described as ludicrous a recent claim by one of the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial aspirants, Chief Olusola Oke that he made overtures to Governor Rotimi Akerodolu to step down for him ahead of the election.

Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Special Duties and Strategy, Dr Doyin Odebowale, who stated this added that such statement made by Oke to journalists after the submission of his nomination and declaration of interest forms in Abuja, should excite not only sympathy but also a grave concern for perception of some public figures.

Oke, the controversial Unity Forum candidate claimed that he had been “reaching out” to the Governor Akeredolu, SAN, with a view to having him step down for his aspiration to govern Ondo State.

Odebowale said it is laughable that any aspirant could ask the incumbent governor of the state with the largest concentration of enlightened and informed people to negotiate with a local champion who has never won a pan-Ondo State or even a Senatorial election since he joined politics.

Ondo Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu

He said: “It is laughable to see a man who rejoined the APC after suffering the most crushing defeat in the last gubernatorial election in the state, boast of his political stature necessitating exigent intervention. It is sad indeed that the man who alleged that he lost the gubernatorial primaries in 2016 because of phantom 300 votes allegedly given to an opponent and the eventual winner could not use his popularity to win on another political platform, the moribund Alliance for Democracy, (AD), resuscitated to promote treachery.

Odebowale said that unlike Governor Akeredolu who won the 2016 election, Oke only “flaunts some specious credentials of service won in two local government areas in 2012 and 2016. He had earlier attempted to be in the National Assembly twice and failed while he was the Chairman of OSOPADEC and a member of the NDDC, he can hardly point to many projects he executed in the state.

“He cannot point at any project evidencing altruistic intervention today. His stint as the National Legal Adviser of the PDP …brought nothing to the people even as every loss at the polls often provided an avenue to defect to another party, “ he said.

According to him, Governor Akeredolu, SAN, will be seeking the support of the good people of Ondo State to serve, yet again, and will be depending on his performance as his scorecard will be presented to the people to afford them the opportunity to choose between proven altruistic service and other aspirants.

He said the people of Ondo State have left no one in doubt as regards their consistent avowal against all acts and suggestions tending towards subjugation, and their ability to discern is legendary. He added that they will speak as they have always for the candidate of their choice in the next election.

You’re not capable, hand over to me – Ajayi tells Ondo Gov. Akeredolu

Sequel to the COVID-19 status of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State, his deputy, Agboola Ajayi has urged his boss to do the needful by handing over to him as acting governor.

On June 30, Akeredolu had begun self-isolation after he was confirmed COVID-19 positive insisting that he will still be treating and attending to files.

Ajayi, who gave his boss 21 days ultimatum, stated that Akeredolu’s COVID-19 status, which returned positive was an indication that he is incapacitated.

Akeredolu had on Friday described his deputy as a threat to governance in the state emphasizing that Ajayi no longer belongs to the APC and governance in the state stressing that it is a non issue that he should handover governance to Ajayi.

Recall with Noble Reporters Media that on June 21, 2020, Ajayi left the APC following months of frosty relationship with his boss, after which he picked the membership card of the PDP.

Shortly after his resignation from APC, the Deputy Governor disclosed that he will not resign from office, stressing that the people who gave him the mandate did not ask him to resign as deputy governor.

According to the deputy governor who spoke through his Media Adviser, Allen Sowore emphasized that “it should be noted, that Mr Governor is at liberty to handover or not within 21 days after which the constitution becomes operational.

“Ostensibly, the refusal and failure of Mr Governor to handover the running of government to his deputy while he is temporarily incapacitated in self-isolation underscore his absolute disregard for our nation’s supreme document, 1999 Constitution (as amended) as well as the tenets of rule of law. The Governor’s position is a spite on the Ondo State people and a direct assault on the provisions of the constitution which he swore to uphold.”

COVID-19: Akeredolu’s wife, aide test positive.

Ondo State Governor, Rotimi AKeredolu’s wife, Mrs Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, has tested positive for the coronavirus disease. The Punch reports.

Similarly, one of the security aides to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has also been confirmed to have been infected with the virus.

This came after the governor directed all his aides and appointees to go for COVID-19 tests.

One of the aides to the governor, who craved anonymity, told our correspondent on Thursday.

When asked, the aide said, “Yes mama’s (first lady) result has come and it was positive. One of the security men attached to the governor is also positive and has been asked to go on isolation.”

Storyline: How Akeredolu’s COVID-19 infection could hinder his re-election

For the next 14 day at least, Ondo Gov. Rotimi Akerdolu will lie low, nursing his health to beat the covid-19 virus that invaded his system.

In times like this when every second counts, the Ondo No.1 citizen’s latest health status has a lot of political implications

  1. His primary election campaign team will first experience shock, as all of them we have to go in for tests and isolate themselves for 14 days too.
  2. The psychological impact of this will tamp down the excitement and optimism of his team
  3. His arch enemies, within and outside the APC, will take advantage of that. More importantly, his estranged Dep. Gov. Agboola Ajayi who just defected to the PDP to battle in the coming guber election will get in the saddle. How will Akeredolu hand over to him?
  4. His APC challenger for the party ticket, Kayode Oke, will also take advantage of the disarray in Akeredolu camp to gain some more ground.
  5. If there are no underlining health condition may come back a changed man—very careful in his re-lection drive. After all, thunder must not strike same place twice.

OndoDecide’20: Akeredolu sack Agboola’s Media Aide, Sowore

Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu on Tuesday sacked Mr Allen Sowore, Special Assistant on New Media to the embattled Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi.

Akeredolu announced the decision in a statement issued on Tuesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Olusegun Ajiboye.

Recall with Noble Reporters Media that Agboola Ajayi had been at loggerheads with his boss, Akeredolu, before he finally resigned from the All Progressives Congress, APC, and joined the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Ajayi had maintained that he remains the Deputy Governor of the state despite his resignation from the All Progressives Congress.

NRM reports that the statement advised Sowore to submit all government’s property in his possession to the Chief of Staff to the Governor with immediate effect.

Ondo Security Saga: My Say So Far! – CP

The Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Salami Bolaji has said that the Ondo Police Command under his policing architecture will never police lawlessness in the State.

Salami while reacting to a video on social media of his purported confrontation with the Deputy Governor of Ondo State over some number of cars, said the video was an attempt to foment sentiment and misunderstanding in the State.

On Saturday night, Ajayi was prevented from leaving the Government House when he was stopped by the Commissioner of Police, Bolaji Salami who was said to be acting on Akeredolu’s order.

Salami further said, he only came to the scene when his officers and men at the government house could not broker peace between the aides of the governor and that of the deputy governor over the number of cars the Deputy governor would drive out at the time.

According to the CP, it is only necessary that his presence at the scene as the Command’s Commissioner of Police could calm frayed nerves.

He also said, having listened to the reason for the misunderstanding, advised both sides to come to terms, a condition they both agreed.

The police boss who said he has never been a politician all through his life and would not want to be dragged into politics affirmed that he is completely apolitical and as a police officer, his job is to protect the lives and properties of citizens of Ondo State.

Storyline: Ondo Governor visit Buhari

Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu on Tuesday met President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House in Abuja, the federal capital territory.

The governor during his visit presented his Expression of Interest forms for re-election to the President.

Governor Akeredolu is seeking a second term in office on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Akeredolu’s plan to rig APC primaries

An aspirant for the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Ambassador Olusola Iji, has accused Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of planning to rig the party’s primary.

Iji, who is Nigeria’s Ambassador to Togo, made the accusation while reacting to a petition sent to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, on alleged illegal registration of new members into the party in Ondo State.

According to him, the petition was a mere ruse to cover up Governor Akeredolu’s plans to rig the primaries.

He further claimed that Akeredolu planned to unfairly tilt the outcome of the July 20 primaries by generating 130 names from each unit into the official APC register in the state.

Iji, in a statement signed by his Director, Media Services, Sola Aregbesola, also noted that a similar scenario played out in the 2016 APC primary won by Akeredolu, adding that he is convinced that the governor is scheming to replay the joker used in 2016 by inputting the 130 names from each of the 3009 units.

The aspirant, who called on the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC to stop what he termed ‘planned political heist’ of the governor from becoming a reality, said his findings show Akeredolu is jittery to face APC members at the primary election because he has disconnected from them.

He said: “We appeal to the APC NWC to refuse to be dissuaded from the popular decision to ensure free, fair and credible conduct of the 2020 primary through direct option. We also appeal to our members to be politically alert to avoid being caught napping by any aspirant’s election rigging antics from wherever scheme.”

Reacting to the allegation, Governor Akeredolu, through his Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Donald Ojogo, said the accusations was wrongly canvassed and misdirected.

Ojogo said: “It’s a genuine fear and apprehension by whoever expresses such. Recall that during a formidable campaign of ours, the Ibigiga Ambassadors, raised similar fears.”

Akeredolu feud as COVID-19 patient sneaks into Ondo amid border closure. [Nigeria]

Ondo State has recorded its fourth confirmed case of COVID-19 otherwise known as coronavirus.

The fourth case, which was discovered in the state on Saturday, was said to be a police officer, who sneaked into the state after discovering his status in Lagos State.

Disclosing the confirmed case on his verified twitter handle, the Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, said that the patient was already being attended to at the state’s Infectious Disease Hospital, IDH, Igbatoro road, Akure, the state capital.

The governor, who was furious over the development, berated the security personnel stationed at the entry point of the state considering that he had earlier ordered the closure of borders across the state in a bid to contain the spread of deadly virus.

The governor’s tweet read, “Earlier today, I got news of another positive case of COVID19 admitted to our facility in Akure. The case of this individual who is a police officer is unique. He was tested in Lagos but came to Ondo state while awaiting his results.

“Upon receiving a positive result, he claimed to have returned back to Lagos. According to him, he waited a few days in Lagos to be picked up. When this failed, he panicked and rushed back to Akure for treatment.

“While we appreciate the confidence reposed in our facilities, We do find it most reckless on the part of the officer of the Law to risk the lives of others. I am most disappointed in the level of porosity of the entry points to the state. The police officer should know better.

“I have contacted the commissioner of police to double up on securing our entry points.”

Recall that the index case was recorded in the state on April 3, 2020 following the arrival of a military officer in the state from official duty in India.

Buhari officially visit Gov. Akeredolu of Ondo

If I decide to make my son ‘chief of staff’ no one can stop me – Gov. Akeredolu

Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, has said that he can appoint his last son, Babajide, as his Chief of Staff if he wishes.

The governor, who said nothing would happen if he took such decision, disclosed that his son was qualified to hold the position because he worked hard towards his emergence in office.

Akeredolu made the remarks during a dinner held at the International Event Centre in Akure, the state capital, to celebrate the third anniversary of his administration.

He said, “When somebody says Baba (Babajide) is this, I just laugh at them. If I wanted to make Baba my Chief of Staff, he can be.

“Ask yourself, how many of you did more than Baba during the campaign? How many?

“The young boy (Babajide) was going everywhere and all of us saw him but we decided because he won’t want it. I just said leave him.

“My son is satisfied, that is why, if he was not, I will put him somewhere, there is nothing anybody can do.

“I will put him, there is nothing you can do. Is he not my son? Is he not from Ondo State? Has he not worked?”

Speaking further, the governor explained the role his wife, Betty, had been playing in his government since coming into office.

He said, “I can never forget the great work that my wife has done in this state. I am not sure you can find a better First Lady, someone who has great interest in women.

Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu

“She is committed to women’s cause. I am not too sure I know many women who are in government today who are there on their own. It’s all through her efforts.”

Akeredolu said he had nothing to fear about in seeking re-election during the October 10, 2020 governorship election in the state.

Ondo 2020: Feud APC Chieftains Reunite To Support Akeredolu

As the governorship election in Ondo State is approaching, some chieftains of the All Progressives Congress in the state under the aegis of the APC Unity Forum have united against the re-election bid of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

The group said it would present a strong and credible candidate for the party’s primary election scheduled to hold in July according to a timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission on Friday.

A key member of the group and the Senator representing the Ondo North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Ajayi Boroffice, said the APC Unity Forum, which comprises aggrieved members of the party, would present the standard bearer of the party in the forthcoming governorship poll.

Boroffice stated this in Akure, the state capital, on Saturday during his empowerment programme for women in the Ondo Central and Ondo South senatorial districts.

The deputy majority leader of the senate noted that members of the Unity Forum were currently working together to present a consensus aspirant to slug it out with Akeredolu at the party’s primary, coming up in few months.

He said, “We in Unity Group of APC in Ondo State will have one person to vie for the primary of the party.

“It may be Chief Olusola Oke, Jimi Odimayo, Ife Oyedele, Olusegun Abraham or Bukola Adetula. It can even be me or anybody in the group since we have a common goal of presenting a credible candidate for the party in the coming election.”

On the empowerment programme, Boroffice explained that four women from each local government area of the Ondo Central and Ondo South senatorial districts received cash of N50,000 each while two women from each local government area of the districts were also given grinding machines to boost their livelihoods.

Also speaking after the programme, an aspirant and member of the Unity Forum, Chief Bukoka Adetula, said the incumbent governor had exhausted all the ideas he had in the last three years and deserved no second term.

Adetula, a United States-based lawyer, who is a kinsman to Akeredolu, corroborated Boroffice, saying the Unity Forum would produce the candidate of the party in the governorship election.

Meanwhile, a former Chairman of the Ondo State APC, Isaacs Kekemeke, has promised to accept the decision of the Chief Bisi Akande reconciliation committee regarding the crisis in the party in the state, NobleReporters gathered

Kekemeke, who is targeting the party’s ticket for the October 10 governorship poll in the state, passed a vote of confidence in the committee.

He said the reports on social media that the panel would be biased was baseless.

According to him, most of the members of the APC Advisory Council in the state had distanced themselves from the reports.

Kekemeke said, “Such comments do not represent our own feelings or what we think as members of the advisory council. That is the unity group I know in the state.”

“The APC advisory council under the chairmanship of Ali Olanusi will work with the panel to bring genuine reconciliation to the party.

“Everyone who loves the party, young and old, should pursue the path of peace.

“This does not mean that we have supported the second term ambition of Governor (Rotimi) Akeredolu.”

He said the core mandate of the council was to bring every member of the party together as a big family to build a formidable team during the election.

Look closely, the certificate of candidates before voting in Edo, Ondo – INEC tell Voters

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said that it will display the personal particulars, including academic qualifications of all the candidates nominated by political parties for the Edo and Ondo governorship elections.

It disclosed that this will afford the citizens the opportunity to scrutinise the particulars of the candidates and take legal actions against those who present false information to the Commission.

INEC insisted that this will help to check the new trend of courts determining the outcome of elections as observed in recent times.

The Supreme Court sacked Bayelsa Governor-elect on the account that his running mate Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo submitted fake certificates to INEC.

INEC National Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, who gave the hint during the quarterly meeting between the Commission and Resident Electoral Commissioners (REC) said: “The personal particulars of all the candidates nominated by political parties for the Edo and Ondo Governorship elections, including their academic qualifications, will be displayed in our offices in the two States as required by law.

“This will enable citizens to scrutinise them and take legal action against any candidate who provides false information to the Commission. The personal particulars of candidates will be displayed on 6th July 2020 in Edo State and on 4th August 2020 in Ondo State. I wish to appeal to citizens to note the dates and to seize the opportunity to scrutinise the information provided on oath by the candidates in the interest of our democracy and good governance.

“For our part, the Commission has been studying the judgements of courts arising from the conduct of recent elections. We have also been reviewing the reports from accredited observers as well as internal reports from our State Offices. We will continue to keep an eye on the conduct of our officials and apply appropriate sanctions on erring staff, both regular and ad-hoc”.

He warned political parties to avoid acrimonious primaries that will result in endless litigation and observe due diligence in the screening of their candidates.

According to him: “Given recent experience with some Governorship elections, political parties need to do more to avoid the conduct of acrimonious primaries or failure to observe due diligence in the screening of their candidates, resulting in protracted litigations and eventual determination of the outcome of elections by orders of court.

“I wish to draw the attention of political parties to two critical dates in the timetable released by the Commission a few weeks ago. Party primaries for the democratic election and nomination of candidates for the Governorship election in Edo State must be held from 2nd to 27th June 2020. The date for Ondo State is 2nd to 25th July 2020. The Commission will not extend the dates. We will also rigorously monitor the primaries and where necessary, apply sanctions as provided by law”.

Yakubu also hinted that the Commission will introduce critical changes ahead the coming governorship elections to strengthen the process and procedures.

Operation Amotekun: Not to order Politicians, VIPs – Akeredolu

Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, has said that operatives of Amotekun Corps will not serve as orderlies to important personalities and politicians.

In a statement by his spokesperson, Jimoh Dojumo, Akeredolu said the primary function of the security outfit would be combating criminals in the region.

Amotekun was created by the South-West governors to address the issue of insecurity.

The Ekiti State Assembly passed the bill allowing the corps to operate within the state.

Akeredolu, who is also the Chairman of the South-West Governors’ Forum, said the outfit would key into the model aimed at tackling criminal activities.

Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu

He said, “We are not attaching the Amotekun Corps to anybody or groups, no matter how highly placed. They are to tackle criminal activities such as armed robbery and kidnapping. They won’t be attached to any religious centre, either church or mosque. We don’t want it to be used for political reasons.”

He also stated that the corps would work within the framework of the Nigeria Police Force’s community policing strategies.

Operation Amotekun: Ondo signs bill

Ondo State Government on Wednesday approved a draft bill of the Ondo State Security Network Agency and Amotekun Corps, codenamed operation Amotekun, for passage into law.

According to a statement issued by Mr Donald Ojogo, Commissioner for Information and Orientation, the bill would be transmitted to the State House of Assembly for legislative scrutiny after which it would be passed into law.

He explained that the details contained in the bill was presented by the Commissioner for Justice in an exhaustive session of deliberations by the state executive members.

“The draft bill has six parts and 44 sections. It is also gratifying to disclose that every apprehension or fears expressed in various quarters have been adequately looked into.

“This is even as traditional rulers will now have roles to play in the operations of the security outfit pursuant to its passage into law by the state assembly.

“Government finds it pertinent to reiterate that this laudable initiative is aimed at complimenting the efforts of the nation’s security agencies.

“It is also necessary to encourage the good people of Ondo State to take maximum advantage of this opportunity,” he said.
