The minister made this known while featuring on Media programme known to NoRM. He said train users must comply with all Covid-19 rules from the beginning of every trip to the end.

The minister said;
“If we see that we are conveying passengers who have Covid from Lagos to Ibadan and Ibadan to Lagos, we will stop it just like we are threatened to stop the one from Kaduna to Abuja if people don’t comply with the Covid protocols.
“Don’t forget that on Kaduna-Abuja, we convey 4,000 passengers in a day. Imagine that about 20 per cent have Covid, they can transmit Covid to the entire passengers. The rate of transmission will be high. The same is applicable to Lagos. Everybody must comply with the Covid protocols, wear your masks till the end of the journey.”

Amaechi, others narrowly escaped kidnap – Aisha Yesufu

A Co-Convener of Bring Back Our Girls group, Aisha Yesufu, says the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, and other passengers escaped being kidnapped by hoodlums at Rigasa Train Station on Sunday evening.

Yesufu said on Twitter that her brother and her sister-in-law were on the train when the incident occurred.

An online medium, Daily Nigerian, had in a report stated that kidnappers laid in ambush around Mando area and attempted to waylay the passengers including Amaechi, who arrived at Rigasa train station around 8:15 pm on Sunday.

The newspaper quoted sources as saying that no sooner had the kidnappers opened fire on the vehicles than policemen and soldiers arrived at the scene in armoured vehicles to disperse the hoodlums.

Amaechi, in a tweet, described the report as fake news and asked Nigerians to ignore it.

In her response, however, Yesufu described Amaechi as a liar, insisting that there were eyewitnesses.

She tweeted, “Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi you should be ashamed of yourself. My sister, my brother and my sister-in-law were on that train. When your convoy scattered and you fled like a newborn mouse whom water have been poured on, it was witnessed! Governance is not by lies and propaganda!”

Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi

“So Amaechi thought he had security and he was immune to the insecurity that affects the rest of us.

“Even the President is not secure. What he has is illusion of security. The more these attacks happen, the more likely we are going to be victims.”

‘Sick’ Femi Fani-Kayode blast Amaechi

Former Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has reacted to the allegation made by Rotimi Amaechi, Minister of Transportation that he stole two billion during his time as minister.

Earlier, Rotimi Amaechi had alleged during an interview on Channels Television some time ago and the video of the interview resurfaced online during the weekend. Fani-Kayode however retorted, calling Amaechi ‘sick’ for accusing him of embezzling the said amount during his time as a Minister.

Amaechi claimed that Fani-Kayode ran away with N2 billion given to him by the then Rivers State government to fix a deplorable Port Harcourt Airport runway. He had said: “Fani-Kayode when he was Minister of Aviation, Dr. Peter Odili’s government gave him N2 billion to fix the runway. The runway was closed for two years and Fani-Kayode left with the money”.

However, Fani-Kayode on Sunday night, while sharing the video on his Twitter page insisted that the airport was re-built and fully paid for by him as Minister.

The former Minister charged those in doubt of his defence to ask Julius Berger construction company for details of the contract.

He maintained that the allegation by the current Minister of Transportation was false, adding that the runway was commissioned shortly after he left office and was opened to public use.

“The runway at Port Harcourt Int. Airport was re-built & fully paid for by me when I was Min. of Aviation.

FFK | Amaechi

“If anyone has any doubts about that they should ask Julius Berger who were the contractors. The runway was commissioned & the airport opened shortly after we left office.

“Those who falsely asserted on @channelstv two years ago that I did not build the runway and that I ran away with the 3 billion naira that was used to build it are sick,” he tweeted.

Calabar: Cleric predicts how Amaechi will experience hard times.

…says Atiku will reconcile with enemies

The General Overseer and President of Christian Central Chapel International (CCCI), Bishop Gospel Emmah Isong, has predicted strange re-alignments and reconciliations among politicians in 2020.

Besides, while he predicted that the former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, would reach out to his political foes in order to reposition himself; he foresees turbulent times for the Rivers State-born Minister of transport, Mr Rotimi Amaechi.

Speaking at 2020 annual “Pass Over Night” church service held in Calabar to usher in the New Year, Isong, who doubles as the National Publicity Secretary of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), also predicted more arrests of Nigerians by DSS which may lead to a shake-up.

He said: “There shall be strange re-alignments, compensations and reconciliations and collaborations of old-time political enemies in 2020.

“Alhaji Abubakar Atiku is going to reconcile with his enemies to position himself in politics. Get ready for shock reconciliations.

“Those of you that used to die for politicians, you will notice that the person you were dying for has made peace with his enemies. Then you will know that politics is a game. And that at a high level, they don’t take it the way you do.

“Rotimi Amechi will have an uphill task, but in the end, he would triumph over his adversaries who are trying to pull him down. But he shall convince his friends and foes that he is still in charge,” he prophesied.

On Department of State Security Services (DSS), he said: “There shall be a shake-up in the DSS because of the embarrassment of the continuous arrest of innocent Nigerians. The arrest would not only be limited to ordinary citizens, but shall also include clergymen who make public utterance that would be against the DSS.

On the issue of insecurity, the cleric said: “There shall be several and retaliatory attacks on the headsmen that would lead to killing all over Nigeria and movement of cows on the road would be heavily restricted to protect life

“Because of border closure, criminals and smugglers would devise other means of breaking the law on the waterways. Besides, I foresee more protests and civil disobedience; I foresee teargas everywhere, mind your steps this year,” he predicted.

On the economy, he stated that “there shall be favourable and overwhelming government policies on Nigeria’s seaport, aviation and marine businesses.”

On Cross River, he prophesied that the state shall witness a serious transformation from 2020 to the extent that those who see the state as a failure would become so shocked.

He, however, called on Nigerians to stop being hard and selfish, and rather embrace real change by caring for the weak, the young and the elderly.

Amaechi complains on CCECC delay on Lagos-Ibadan rail.

….We cannot continue like this

The Minister of Transportation, Mr Rotimi Amaechi, has described as embarrassing the delay by the China Civil Engineering and Construction Corporation in completing the 10 railway stations along the Lagos-Ibadan standard gauge rail line.

Amaechi made the remarks on Friday at the Abeokuta rail station under construction, during the monthly inspection of the on-going Lagos to Ibadan Rail project.

According to him, CCECC, the contractor handling the 156km rail line, has reduced the pace of work between the last two inspections in November and December.

“The delay is becoming an embarrassment and I think we need to meet with the CCECC. We cannot continue like this. The speed has reduced drastically this time, we need to meet with the management of CCECC. We have a problem with CCECC honestly,” the minister said.

Amaechi, who expressed displeasure over the pace of work at Agbado, Kajola, Papalanto and Abeokuta stations said the contractor had promised to finish the stations within three months.

The minister, who insisted that the stations should be completed by the end of January 2020, urged the contractor to engage workers who were ready to work.

He said block work, flooring, plastering and pipe laying should have moved forward than the stage they were.

Amaechi urged the contractor not to wait until April when the project was expected to be inaugurated before completing them.

He said three years after the inauguration of the Abuja-Kaduna standard gauge rail line, the contractor was still at the site working on power.

According to him, the Ibadan-Kano standard gauge rail line was billed for commencement in 2020, so all the projects comprising track laying, stations, power should be taken at the same time.

NobleReporters learnt that the track laying has moved from Iju Station to around Agege and work was still ongoing at the Lagos axis.

Amaechi had assured Nigerians that the entire project would be delivered by April 2020.

IPOB did not beat Amaechi in Madrid, Spain.

…media says it’s a lie

Contrary to reports that the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi was physically assaulted by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), in Madrid Spain, on Friday, the media office of Amaechi has refuted the claim in a statement.

“It’s a lie. IPOB did not ‘beat’ the Minister of Transformation, Rotimi Amaechi. We must clarify that in the incident of the attack yesterday on the Minister in Madrid, where Amaechi was part of the official Nigerian government delegation to the United Nations (UN) climate change conference (COP25), IPOB members did not “beat”, physically assault or cause any bodily harm to the honourable Minister” it noted.

The statement stated further that the claim credited to the group’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful was false.

Part of the statement reads “ We read with utter disgust and disdain the sickening propagandist lies credited to one Emma Powerful, who claims to be the Spokesman of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), that IPOB members in Madrid, Spain “beat” (physically assaulted) the Minister of Transportation Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. That is not true.

“As they charged towards and at the minister during the attack, it was apparent that they planned to “beat” (quoting Emma Powerful) him, hurt him, cause bodily harm or even do worse! But their violent evil plot failed woefully due to the dexterity of Amaechi to resist them, protect and defend himself, and the prompt intervention of the Spanish police who repelled the motley crowd of misguided attackers. Even the video circulated online by the attackers confirmed this much. Everyone could hear one of them shouting, “We didn’t get him…” expressing his frustrations of their inability to get and “beat” the Minister.

“We must commend the Spanish police in Madrid for their timely intervention to protect Amaechi and their investigation of the attack and attempt on the life of the honourable minister in Spanish territory.

“The honourable minister of Transportation is immensely grateful to all for the outpour of love, support, and prayers. He acknowledges God’s hand in the foiling of the attack and reassures all and sundry that he’s well, unhurt and okay; and will continue to dedicate himself in service to God, Nigeria, and humanity”.

The group’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, in a statement released, claimed they beat up Amaechi on the orders of their leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

Update – IPOB attacks Rotimi Amaechi in Spain.

…why we attacked him

The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, who is in Spain for climate change event was attacked by those he described as “misguided Nigerians.”

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has however claimed responsibility for the attack. Former Deputy Senate Presided, Ike Ekweremadu was in like manner attacked by members of the group in Germany few months ago.

Through his verified twitter handle @ChibuikeAmaechi, the Minister said he was not hurt as his attackers were quickly stopped by the Spanish police.

He tweeted at 4:20pm on Friday that: “Some minutes ago, I was attacked by a few misguided Nigerians while on national assignment at a climate change event in Madrid, Spain. They were quickly repelled by the Spanish police before they could do any harm. I am fine. I was not hurt. Thanks for your support & prayers.”

The 2019 United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as COP25, is the 25th United Nations Climate Change conference. It is being held in Madrid, Spain, from December 2-13, 2019 under the presidency of the Chilean government.

The Climate Action Summit in September was the initiative of the UN Secretary-General to focus the attention of the international community on the climate emergency and to accelerate actions to reverse climate change.

The Climate Conference in Madrid was moved there after the meeting was moved from Chile due to unrest there.

COP25, is the actual Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Climate Change, UNFCCC, which is tasked with making sure that the 2015 Paris Agreement, which strengthens the Convention, are being implemented.

Meanwhile, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), yesterday, said that its members attacked Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, in Madrid, Spain. IPOB spokesman, Emmanuel Powerful, said the incident was in line with the group’s resolve to continue to embarrass politicians, whom he claimed used their positions to levy hardships on the people.

He explained that the order was there even before former Deputy Senate Presided, Ike Ekweremadu received similar embarrassing treatment in Germany, some few months ago.

Responding to a request whether the group had a hand in what befell the minister, Powerful stated: “Yes, IPOB beat Amaechi the Transport Minister based on the standing order given by our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to reprimand those politicians who think they have arrived. IPOB Spain, precisely Madrid, beat Minister of Transport, Dr Chibuike Amaechi in Spain.

“The order was there before the attack on former Deputy Senate President, Dr Ike Ekweremadu in Nuremberg Germany.

“IPOB is warming all those corrupt politicians who brought hardship to the people that we are waiting for them anywhere we meet or see them. We are telling the whole world why they must be dealt with because they are not sincere to the people; the suffering citizens. “We ask (them) to retrace their steps otherwise IPOB in the diaspora will continue to treat their foolishness anywhere around the world.”

…affected by the order are five ministers

The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN) said he will comply with the order of a Federal High Court which directed him to recover monies being paid to former governors that are currently serving as senators and ministers.

The order was made on Wednesday by Justice Oluremi Oguntoyinbo, of the Lagos division of the Federal High Court while delivering judgment in a suit filed by Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP).

In the said suit, SERAP had approached the court for an order of mandamus to compel the Attorney General of the Federation to file action to challenge states’ pension laws for former governors and recover public funds collected by them in the interest of the public.

The group further sought an order directing the AGF to challenge the legality of states’ pension laws permitting former governors and other ex-public officials to collect such pensions.

Responding to the judgment on Thursday, Malami said that the Federal Government will be guided by public interest in complying with the court order.

Malami’s position was contained in a statement made available to journalists by his media aide, Dr. Umar Gwandu.

“We will work and be guided by the legalities of the case, the dictates of justice and public interest in complying with the judgment”, the minister said.
