Says Their Demise Has Created Vacuum In Buhari’s Government

Close confidant and President Muhammadu Buhari’s nephew, Mamman Daura has said he was devastated and saddened by the demise of his two associates, Abba Kyari and Isa Funtua, whose deaths have created a vacuum in the administration.

Daura had shed light on his relationship with Kyari and Funtua before their death in a British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), Hausa Service, monitored in Kaduna at the weekend. Daura, Kyari and Funtua were believed to be the strong forces behind Buhari’s government, by reason of their closeness to the Presidency.

Reacting to their death and subsequent absence in government, Daura said: “It was very disturbing, truly. These two great personalities, aside being my friends, were my close associates and not blood relations. Close associates, due to long-term relationship…”

Narrating how he met Kyari and Funtua, Daura said: “When I was editor, I was informed one day, that one Abba Kyari Chima came to see me. I asked him to come in. I asked what the matter was. He said he wanted to work in New Nigerian. I asked what he was doing then. He said he was teaching. I told him that teaching was better than newspaper work. He said no, that in newspaper work, one was teaching the whole nation, but in teaching, one is just teaching a few persons. That amazed me and I then searched for an available place for him.

“After the search, the only available place he could get was the last in hierarchy. I told him to exercise patience, because his level of education had superseded that level. But, he said there was no problem, he would take that position. In fact, Malam Abba Kyari was not looking for money or position. He was looking for where to work and assist. It’s 43 years now we had been together.”Daura, now 81, also gave account of his relationship with the late Funtua.

“After leaving New Nigerian, and retired as a Managing Director, I became the Director of United Nigeria Textile Limited, (UNTL). It’s 40 years now. Funtua was the Personnel Manager there. That was when we became intimate. Together, we established Funtua Textiles…”

Daura’s comments on zoning not Buhari’s opinion – Presidency

Advertisements

Comments made by Mamman Daura about zoning, during a recent radio interview, do not “in any way” reflect the views of President Muhammadu Buhari, according to the Presidency.

Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President (Media & Publicity), said in a statement on Saturday that the views Mr Daura expressed during the interview were “personal to him.”

“We have received numerous requests for comments on the interview granted by Malam Mamman Daura, President Muhammadu Buhari’s nephew to Media (known to Noble Reporters Media)

Advertisements

“It is important that we state from the onset that as mentioned by the interviewee, the views expressed were personal to him and did not, in any way, reflect that of either the President or his administration.”

In the interview, which aired during the week, Mr Daura told Media (known to Noble Reporters Media) that rotational leadership has failed the country and there is a need to now look “for the most competent and not for someone who comes from somewhere”.

The Presidency believes the comments, which drew strong criticism from several people including groups such as Ohanaeze Ndigbo and Afenifere, were taken out of context.

“At age 80, and having served as editor and managing director of one of this country’s most influential newspapers, the New Nigerian, certainly, Malam Mamman qualifies as an elder statesman with a national duty to hold perspectives and disseminate them as guaranteed under our constitution and laws of the land. He does not need the permission or clearance of anyone to exercise this right,” the Presidency’s statement continued.

“In an attempt to circulate the content of the interview to a wider audience, the English translation clearly did no justice to the interview, which was granted in Hausa, and as a result, the context was mixed up and new meanings were introduced and/or not properly articulated.

“The issues discussed during the interview, centered around themes on how the country could birth an appropriate process of political dialogue, leading to an evaluation, assessment, and a democratic outcome that would serve the best interest of the average Nigerian irrespective of where they come from.

“These issues remain at the heart of our evolving and young democracy, and as a veteran journalist, scholar and statesman, Malam Mamman has seen enough to add his voice to those of many other participants.”

Don’t return to Daura when your tenure is up – Akpabio tells Buhari.

…ensure that the votes are retained

President Muhammadu Buhari stirred curiousity at a meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on November 22 when he charged the leaders of the party to ensure that it does not die after his tenure.

It has now emerged that the President’s statement was not made in a vacuum. It was actually impelled by an appeal the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio had made to the President during a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting a few days earlier.

At the said NEC meeting, Akpabio was said to have stood up in his hilarious manner and told President Buhari that there are three major political parties in Nigeria, namely the APC, the PDP and the President himself as a custodian of 12 million votes.

Akpabio then pleaded with the President that when his tenure is up, he should not return to Daura with his 12 million votes but ensure that the votes are retained for the survival and progress of APC.

There and then, the President pledged his determination to see that APC survives beyond his tenure.

PDP slams, says Buhari, Aisha has turned presidency to Fuji House of Commotion.

…as fued between Aisha, mamman and garba boils

The Peoples Democratic Party PDP has said the Buhari-led government has reduced the Presidency to Kunle Bamtefa’s soap opera, Fuji House of Commotion. The party stated this while reacting to first lady, Aisha Buhari’s recent attack on the Senior Assistant to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu.

In a statement released today Wednesday December 11th, Mrs Buhari accused Garba Shehu of selling his loyalty to her husband to people who are not in her husband’s government. She accused Mr Shehu of being used by some persons to wage a media war against her and her children.

PDP in its statement said Mrs Buhari’s outburst has ”exposed Buhari’s failure to lead and enforce an organized governance structure.”

Read the statement in full below

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says the public outburst by First Lady, Aisha Buhari, is another sad commentary that further exposes President Muhammadu Buhari’s incompetence and why governance has failed in his hands.

The party says the development has also exposed President Buhari’s failure to lead and enforce an organized governance structure, and that the governance of our nation has been ceded to the chaotic and selfish whims of a cabal.

It is indeed appalling that under President Buhari, our once productive and highly organized Presidency has been bastardized and reduced to Kunle Bamtefa’s soap opera, Fuji House of Commotion.

Instead of governance, the Buhari Presidency has continued to serve Nigerians and the international community with tragicomedies that make mockery of leadership.

Nigerians can now further see why nothing works under the Buhari Presidency; why the administration has remained shambolic and plagued with policy summersaults and executive recklessness; why our economy has remained comatose and why our nation has been dangerously drifting to the brinks under President Buhari’s watch.

Indeed, the Buhari Presidency has proven to be a huge national embarrassment and a big problem for our nation.

Never in the history of our nation has the office, essence and symbol of Nigeria’s Presidency been so stripped and ridiculed.

The PDP urges President Buhari to immediately put his house in order and save our nation further embarrassments under his very incompetent, disorderly and messy regime.

Nigeria’s First, Aisha Buhari Seeks Shehu Garba’s Resignation.

…accused Shehu of taking instruction from mamman daura.

Nigeria’s First Lady, Hajia Aisha Buhari on Wednesday demanded for the resignation of the Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu.

In a statement, she accused the presidential spokesman of interfering in the affairs of the president’s family.

“In saner climes, Garba Shehu would have resigned immediately after going beyond his boundaries and powers” she said in the statement.

Aisha said Shehu has abandoned his responsibility of managing the image of the president and has “shifted his loyalty from the president to others who have no stake in the compact that the president signed with Nigerians on May 29, 2015 and 2019”.

She accused Shehu of taking instruction from President Buhari’s cousin, Mamman Daura, in the early days of the Administration, to declare that there will not be the Office of the First Lady, a development she said embarrassed her husband.

She accused him of releasing the video in which she had an altercation with the Daura family to the press, adding that his loyalty is not to anyone or group.

However, some Nigerians who took to social media have supported Aisha Buhari while others disagreed with her, claiming the incident should not be in the public domain and because she is in support of the Social Media Regulation bill.

Nigerians have taken to Twitter to react to Aisha Buhari’s recent attack on Garba Shehu, her husband’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity and Mamman Daura, her hubby’s closest ally.

In a statement released today December 11th, Aisha Buhari alleged that Garba Shehu has shifted his loyalty from the President to others who have no stake in the compact that the President signed with Nigerians on May 29, 2015, and 2019.

Some Nigerians on Twitter are not taking sides with Aisha Buhari on this matter, mostly because she is in support of the Social Media Regulation bill. See their reactions below.

Aisha Buhari – Daura issued presidential directive without my husband’s knowledge

…says Garba shehu has gone beyond all boundaries

Nigerian First Lady Aisha Buhari has alleged that Mamman Daura, a nephew of President Muhammadu Buhari, had used a presidential media aide to try and destabilise the First Family.

Mrs Buhari alleges that the aide, Garba Shehu, a Presidential Villa spokesman, was used by Daura to release a video that went viral in October when she returned from a two-month foreign trip, where she was seen asking questions and making comments about being locked out of a particular room at the Presidential Villa, and demanding that some unidentified persons pack their belongings out of the premises.

The President’s wife in a statement she personally signed and made available to the media Wednesday morning, also alleges that the meddlesomeness of Shehu almost led to the sack of two NTA staff attached to her office, adding that the antics have led to a “complete breakdown of trust between the First Family and him.”

The statement titled ‘Garba Shehu Has Gone Beyond His Boundaries‘, sent through the First Lady’s media aide, Suleiman Haruna’s email, reads:

“Nigeria’s development is hinged on the ability of public officials to execute their mandates professionally, and to be shining examples in their various areas of endeavor. It is not a good sign when officials abandon their responsibility and start clutching at straws.

“As spokesperson of the President, he has the onerous responsibility of managing the image of the President and all the good works that he is executing in the country. Rather than face this responsibility squarely, he has shifted his loyalty from the President to others who have no stake in the compact that the President signed with Nigerians on May 29, 2015 and 2019.

“To make matters worse, Mr Shehu has presented himself to these people as a willing tool and executioner of their antics, from the corridors of power even to the level of interfering with the family affairs of the President. This should not be so. The blatant meddling in the affairs of a First Lady of a country is a continuation of the prodigal actions of those that he serves. We all remember that the chief proponent appropriated to himself and his family a part of the Presidential Villa, where he stayed for almost 4 years, and when the time came for him to leave, he orchestrated and invaded my family’s privacy through a video circulated by Mamman’s Daughter, Fatima; the public was given the impression that on arrival into the country I was locked out of the villa by Mr President. Garba Shehu as Villa Spokesperson, knew the truth and had the responsibility to set the records straight, but because his allegiance is somewhere else and his loyalty misplaced, he deliberately refused to clear the air and speak for the President who appointed him in the first place. Consequently, his action has shown a complete breakdown of trust between the First Family and him.

“Mr Shehu was privy and part of the plan and its execution and he was shocked when he realized that I had publicized my return to Nigeria on October 12, 2019 and cleared the air on the many rumors that took over social media, a job he was supposed to do but kept mute to cause more confusion and instability for his Principal and his family.

“Garba then vented his anger on the National Television Authority (NTA) Management, insisting that the media crew to my office must be sacked. He succeeded in getting them suspended for doing their job. I had to intervene to save the innocent staff from losing their means of livelihood by involving the Department of State Services (DSS) in order to ascertain roles played by key actors in the saga.

“It is at this late hour that I recall, sadly, that it was the same Garba Shehu who claimed that the government will not allow office of the First Lady to run. He was later to confirm to one of my aides that he was instructed to say so by Mamman Daura and not the President. This antic attracted the anger of Nigerian women. He didn’t realize the fact that First Lady’s office is a tradition which has become an institution.

“Today, even without a budget, I am able run my humanitarian programmes.

“In saner climes, Garba Shehu would have resigned immediately after going beyond his boundaries and powers.

“GARBA SHEHU NEEDS TO UNDERSTAND THAT THIS KIND OF BEHAVIOR WILL NO LONGER BE TOLERATED.

“The latest of his antics was to wage a war on the first family through an orchestrated media campaign of calumny by sponsoring pseudo accounts to write and defame my children and myself.

“Based on Garba Shehu’s misguided sense of loyalty and inability to stay true and loyal to one person or group, it has become apparent that all trust has broken down between him and my family due to the many embarrassments he has caused the Presidency and the first family. We all have families to consider in our actions and therefore it is in the best interest of all concerned for Garba Shehu to take the advice of the authority given to him sometimes in the first week of November, 2019.”

The establishment of the university is in line with the corporate social responsibility of China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) especially in the creation of employment as well as encouragement of local capacity development.
