Inter have officially signed full-back Achraf Hakimi from Real Madrid in a deal that could rise to €45m.

A statement on Inter’s official website reads: “Achraf Hakimi is offically an Inter player.

“The Moroccan, who was born in 1998, has joined the Nerazzurri on a permanent basis from Real Madrid and has signed a contract which will last until 30 June 2025”

Hakimi will earn a reported €5m in each of those five years.

The 21-year-old is one of Europe’s most sought-after wide defenders after two seasons on loan at Borussia Dortmund, where he scored 12 goals and provided 17 assists in 72 appearances.

He was also part of the Madrid squad that won the Champions League – Los Blancos’ third on the trot – during the 2017-18 campaign.

Although being born in the Spanish capital, Hakimi is a full Morocco international with already 28 caps under his belt.

Coming in at a cost of €40m plus €5m in bonuses, he becomes the most expensive defender in Inter’s history.

Hakimi primarily plays on the right-hand side but is more than capable of filling in on the opposite flank.

Achraf Hakimi will not be playing for Real Madrid next season as he looks to conclude a deal to join Inter.

Currently on loan at Borussia Dortmund, the Moroccan international has impressed many, but Dani Carvajal’s position as undisputed starter at right-back for Real Madrid complicates things.

Real Madrid were in contact with Achraf’s agent throughout the current campaign, and Bayern Munich’s interest in January acted as a catalyst in letting Los Blancos know that the player is looking for regular time on the pitch.

Talk in Italy suggests that Achraf will arrive in Milan on Tuesday to seal a switch to Inter for 40 million euros.

The deal hasn’t been completed yet, and the player’s agent is in charge of finalising any proposal which will then be presented to Real Madrid, who also want to have some kind of buy-back option included.

NobleSports Reliable Sources reported on Monday that Achraf had all but sealed the deal having had a medical already, before flying to Milan to sign a new contact.

On Sunday, Inter CEO Giuseppe Marotta confirmed that the talks were on the right track though stated that nothing was complete yet.

Morocco international Achraf Hakimi will leave Borussia Dortmund this summer after two years on loan from Real Madrid, the Bundesliga club’s sporting director Michael Zorc said Saturday.

Hakimi, 21, has drawn reported interest from Inter Milan and could be sold for around €40 million after an impressive past season with Dortmund.

He scored five goals and provided 10 assists in the Bundesliga while displaying his versatility at both right and left-back as well as in a more advanced position.

Zorc, who was initially hopeful of retaining Hakimi, said the asking price for the Madrid-born player had risen again.

“We don’t want to go there, we can’t” keep him, said a rueful Zorc.

Dortmund keen to extend Hakimi’s stay and will discuss with Madrid

Reliable Sources has learned that Dortmund are keen to extend Achraf Hakimi’s stay and will discuss the matter with Real Madrid once football resumes.

Borussia Dortmund are keen to hold on to Achraf Hakimi after the end of the season and will discuss the possibility with Real Madrid once football recommences.

Achraf joined Dortmund on a two-year loan deal which finishes at the end of the season but NobleSports understands the German club want to extend the Moroccan defender’s stay at the Bundesliga.

That means talks with Madrid would focus on extending the loan agreement or completing a transfer to make Achraf’s stay permanent. Los Blancos were expecting the full-back to return this summer, although his position is already covered by Sergio Reguilón, who has been on loan at Sevilla this season, and like Achraf, has had an impressive campaign with his adopted club.

Of course, a lot could change between now and when the talks start. Strategically, however, it would be in Real Madrid’s interest to maintain its excellent relations with Dortmund.

Madrid have their eyes set on Dortmund’s prized young striker, Erling Haaland, and keeping the Bundesliga outfit sweet with Achraf could help with future negotiations for the Norwegian striker.
