Hakimi to inter Deal Done

Advertisements

Achraf Hakimi will not be playing for Real Madrid next season as he looks to conclude a deal to join Inter.

Currently on loan at Borussia Dortmund, the Moroccan international has impressed many, but Dani Carvajal’s position as undisputed starter at right-back for Real Madrid complicates things.

Real Madrid were in contact with Achraf’s agent throughout the current campaign, and Bayern Munich’s interest in January acted as a catalyst in letting Los Blancos know that the player is looking for regular time on the pitch.

Talk in Italy suggests that Achraf will arrive in Milan on Tuesday to seal a switch to Inter for 40 million euros.

Advertisements

The deal hasn’t been completed yet, and the player’s agent is in charge of finalising any proposal which will then be presented to Real Madrid, who also want to have some kind of buy-back option included.

NobleSports Reliable Sources reported on Monday that Achraf had all but sealed the deal having had a medical already, before flying to Milan to sign a new contact.

On Sunday, Inter CEO Giuseppe Marotta confirmed that the talks were on the right track though stated that nothing was complete yet.

Hakimi is currently on loan at Borussia Dortmund, but his two-year arrangement is coming to an end.

The 21-year-old has already given Inter the green light to signing for them.

Furthermore, the Nerazzurri would be in advanced talks over a €40m transfer for the Moroccan, who has provided 10 assists in 32 appearances this season.

Mertens goal sends Inter outta Copa italia

Advertisements

Dries Mertens set a club record by scoring the decisive goal as Napoli advanced to the Italian Cup final after drawing with Inter Milan 1-1 on Saturday.

Advertisements

In both sides’ first match in more than three months due to the coronavirus pandemic, Inter took an early lead when Christian Eriksen scored directly from a corner kick, with David Ospina conceding a howler as the ball bounced underneath him.

Mertens equalised before the break by finishing off a splendid counterattack, and eclipsed Marek Hamsik as Napoli’s leading scorer with his 122nd in all competitions.

Napoli advanced 2-1 on aggregate inside an empty San Paolo Stadium, having won the first leg 1-0 in February.

‘We wanted to reach the final at all costs,’ Napoli captain Lorenzo Insigne said.

In the final on Wednesday in Rome, Napoli will face Juventus, which eliminated AC Milan on away goals on Friday in the first match of Italian soccer’s restart.

Advertisements

No games had been played since the country since March 9.

Before kickoff, a minute of silence was observed to mourn the more than 34,000 people who have died from the virus in Italy. Three medical workers wearing white lab coats stood at midfield surrounded by the teams on the centre circle.

Advertisements

‘Hopefully we brought them some joy tonight,’ Insigne said of the medical workers and others who have been affected the most during the pandemic.

After the minute, Napoli coach Gennaro Gattuso looked to the sky – likely remembering his younger sister, Francesca, who died last week from diabetes.

‘We dedicate this win to him,’ Insigne said of Gattuso.

Advertisements

During the warmup, Inter players wore armbands that read ‘#NoToDiscrimination’.

Napoli goalkeeper David Ospina was caught off guard when Eriksen’s corner found its way through traffic and went through his legs two minutes in.

But Ospina redeemed himself with difficult saves and set up Mertens’ goal with a splendid long ball to Insigne.

Insigne smartly attracted two defenders before leaving the ball for a wide open Mertens to calmly finish.

Advertisements

It was such a swift counterattack that referee Gianluca Rocchi had to be treated with a spray on the sideline for an apparent muscular problem.

‘We try this play often in training,’ Insigne said.

On Napoli’s all-time scoring list, Mertens moved seven goals ahead of Diego Maradona, who is third.

Mertens is also due for a contract extension, Napoli sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli confirmed before kickoff.

Advertisements

Napoli is attempting to win its sixth Italian Cup and first since 2014. The title would also provide Napoli with direct entry into the Europa League group phase – a welcome prospect amid a difficult Serie A season that saw Gennaro Gattuso replace the fired Carlo Ancelotti as coach in December.

Napoli is also still to play the return leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Barcelona, following a 1-1 first leg.

Inter rules out Vidal’s chase

Advertisements

Inter Milan coach Antonio Conte would like to sign Barcelona midfielder Arturo Vidal, but it seems that he’s come up against his own club, who are unsure because of the Chilean’s age.

The club don’t want to include him in the Lautaro Martinez trade with Barca and Relaibe sources says that the club’s sporting director Marotta doesn’t want to bring him in because of his age – 33 years old.

The Italians are looking at alternatives, with Radja Nainggolan a player that they might want to reinforce the midfield with.

Tronchetti : Inter Should sign both Cavani and Werner for Lautaro’s replacement

Pirelli chief Marco Tronchetti has advised Inter to bring in both Edinson Cavani and Timo Werner if Lautaro Martinez leaves for Barcelona.

Advertisements

The two forwards have been increasingly linked with Inter in recent weeks, although it appeared the Nerazzurri were treating the pair as separate targets.

Nonetheless, Tronchetti urged the club to pursue both strikers and Antonio Conte to make better use of Christian Eriksen.

“Pireli will remain linked to Inter,” he told Gr Parlamento, referring to his company’s shirt sponsorship possibly ending next year.

“We don’t know how yet, but their projects will remain ambitious with Suning.

“Conte has extraordinary ability. We’ve left the old world, but we still don’t know what the new one will be like.

“For example, we left Inter with a ‘regista’ who was supposed to change the team in Eriksen.

Advertisements

“Cavani’s been able to do extraordinary things and I hope he can repeat them in Nerazzurro.

“It’s clear that selling Lautaro would hurt, but with Cavani and Werner we could be stronger than with Lautaro and Icardi, especially if Eriksen returns to his Tottenham form.”

Just in🔥: PSG tables interesting offer for Inter’s Icardi

Paris Saint-Germain have made an opening offer of £44.7m (€50m) plus a further £8.9m (€10m) in add-ons for Mauro Icardi from Inter Milan.

Advertisements

Icardi has been on loan at PSG since last summer – a deal that included a £62.7m (€70m) option to buy.

Icardi has no future at the San Siro and despite impressing on loan at Paris Saint-Germain this season, there are doubts he will stay in Ligue 1 permanently.

The 27-year-old has scored 20 goals in 31 appearances after his arrival at PSG.

Inter focuses on Cavani as Mertens chooses Napoli stay

Inter are now concentrating their efforts on Edinson Cavani after Dries Mertens opted to stay at Napoli.

Advertisements

Cavani is also available on a free transfer but, unlike Mertens, Paris Saint-Germain have not opened talks to renew the striker’s contract.

However, given his different profile to the Belgian, sources explains he would form part of a new-look Nerazzurri attack.

That is because Lautaro Martinez could join Barcelona, Alexis Sanchez will return to Manchester United and Sebastiano Esposito is set to be loaned out.

The 33-year-old, for his part, has been replaced in PSG’s front line by Mauro Icardi this season, and the Inter loanee looks like making his stay permanent.

For a deal to happen, Il Corriere warns Inter must see off competition from Atletico Madrid.

It is thought Atletico could offer him closer to his current €18m salary, but the Beneamata are almost certain to be able to offer Champions League football.

Inter Separates Vidal From Lautaro’s Deal

Advertisements

Inter are so determined to get Arturo Vidal from Barcelona that they are separating him out from the Lautaro Martinez talks, claim sources in Italy and Spain.

Advertisements

Antonio Conte has never hidden his desire to reunite with former Juventus midfielder Vidal at San Siro, so the Chilean naturally became the first choice when discussing swap deals.

However, Mundo Deportivo and Tuttosport both claim today that Vidal is considered too important a target to tie him in with the Lautaro Martinez negotiations.

His contract is due to expire in June 2021 and he’ll turn 33 later this month, so the cost of the operation should be around €10-15m.

~Auturo Vidal

Barcelona are also well aware that Vidal is determined to make the move and might feel pushed into a corner, with the risk of losing him for free next summer.

Inter had tried to sign Vidal last year and again in January, but could not reach an agreement with his club.

Barca Lays Emphasis On Lautaro Martinez

Advertisements

Barcelona know signing Lautaro Martinez won’t be easy.

They know that a player of his quality will attract interest from various clubs, even though his price tag is high.

Advertisements

Paris Saint-Germain are one of those and pose a serious threat to the Blaugrana’s pursuit of the Argentine, but the Catalan club aren’t worried.

Barcelona can play one particularly powerful card: they are confident that the player himself wants to move to the Camp Nou.

Lautaro’s release clause is some 111 million euros and, in order to bring this figure down to an affordable size, Barcelona will offer players in the deal – Arturo Vidal and Nelson Semedo are the main options.

Inter aren’t making talks very easy for Barcelona because they are aware of the interest from other clubs and have even offered the striker a new contract, which he has rejected.

~Lautaro Martinez

While Real Madrid and Manchester City have shown interest before, PSG have emerged as strong contenders to sign Lautaro.

With Edinson Cavani’s contract nearing an end, Mauro Icardi’s loan expiring, Kylian Mbappe subject to offers from elsewhere and Neymar wanting to leave, PSG are in need of attacking reinforcements.

Bad relationships

~Freaked Lautaro Martinez

Barcelona and PSG haven’t got on very well in previous years.

Most recently, they fought over the signing of Matthijs de Ligt, who ended up joining Juventus.

While the Blaugrana know PSG is a tempting prospect, they are confident that Lautaro would rather play alongside Lionel Messi at the Camp Nou.

Inter To Hijack Barca’s Target ‘Alaba’

Advertisements

Inter Milan boss Antonio Conte is set for another crack at signing David Alaba this summer after failing to land the Bayern Munich star while managing Chelsea.

Advertisements

Alaba has spent 12 years with the dominant Bundesliga side after signing for their academy in 2008, rising into the first-team and becoming one of the world’s best defenders.

However, the Austrian’s contract expires in 2021 and he is yet to resign with Bayern, having reportedly rejected their first contract offer.

Europe’s elite clubs are monitoring the situation closely including Barcelona and Real Madrid, with Inter also weighing-up a summer move, according to Sport1.

Advertisements

Bayern president Herbert Hainer has previously insisted he is ‘confident’ the German side can resign club stalwarts Thiago, Manuel Neuer and Alaba, but the latter appears to be stalling.

Conte previously wanted to sign Alaba to his Premier League winning Chelsea side during his 2016-2018 tenure.

Advertisements

The versatile 27-year-old would have been capable of playing either in the centre of the Italian’s back-three system or at left-back.

After becoming arguably the world’s best left-back over ten-years in the Bayern line-up, under Hans-Dieter Flick the star has transitioned to the centre this sesaon, playing 16 of his 20 games in the new role.

Alaba has made 372 appearances and won eight Bundesliga titles with the club, and will be back in action hoping to add a ninth when they resume play against Union Berlin on May 17.

Inter to challenge Juventus, Madrid & PSG for signing of Pogba

Advertisements

Inter are determined to challenge Juventus, Real Madrid and PSG for the signing of Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba, claims La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Advertisements

It is widely reported the France international will leave Old Trafford this summer, especially after the club did not take up its option to extend his contract.

While Juve are trying to use players as part of an exchange, such as Miralem Pjanic and Douglas Costa, Inter would be more inclined to use a cash sum.

They should have a huge influx of transfer funds if PSG and Bayern Munich take up their options to buy Mauro Icardi and Ivan Perisic, which would bring in almost €100m.

Advertisements

While Pogba would like to reunite with Antonio Conte, there is no doubt he remains very attached to Juventus, regularly in contact with former teammates and visiting the city of Turin.

There is also the option of another challenge at Real Madrid or Paris Saint-Germain, as despite barely playing this season due to injury, Pogba has many interested clubs lining up.

Lautaro Chooses Barcelona Over Inter

Advertisements

Spanish media maintain Lautaro Martinez has already chosen Barcelona and sent a signal to Inter by refusing to sign a new contract.

Advertisements

According to Mundo Deportivo, the Argentina international has made his mind up, despite also receiving interest from Manchester United, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.

He has his heart set on a move to Camp Nou and it’s just about reaching an agreement over the fee.

Barcelona are unwilling to pay the full €111m release clause, as it could not be stretched out over several instalments.

Advertisements

They are proposing players in exchange, such as Arturo Vidal and Junior Firpo, but Inter aren’t prepared to even sit down and discuss it unless €90m cash is part of the deal.

It therefore comes down to Lautaro Martinez to pressure Inter, which Mundo Deportivo claim he will do by not signing a new contract.

Meanwhile, Sport suggest Barca are looking to alternatives, although Jadon Sancho would cost €130m from Borussia Dortmund

Barcelona ‘can’t currently offer Inter any more than €50m for Lautaro’

Advertisements

Barcelona cannot currently afford to offer Inter any more than €50 million for striker Lautaro Martinez according to a report from Italian broadcaster Sport Mediaset.

The Blaugrana club have shown an extremely strong interest in signing the highly rated 22-year-old Argentine national team forward ahead of the Summer transfer window but do not have the finances to meet Inter’s demands for him.

The report claims that Barcelona could only afford to offer Inter a fee in the region of €45-50 million due to their financial situation, a fee which Inter would not even think about sitting around the negotiation table for.

Advertisements

Inter are understood to want €90 million in cash plus Arturo Vidal on a permanent basis and Antoine Griezmann on loan.

Lautaro, who joined Inter in a circa €20 million deal from Racing Club in the Summer of 2018, has made 31 appearances across all competitions this term, in which he has scored 16 goals and provided four assists for his teamamtes.

‘He will be one of the greatest’ – Totti hails Inter & Juventus target Tonali

Advertisements

Francesco Totti reveals he tried to sign Nicolò Barella for Roma and advised them to do anything possible to get Brescia’s Sandro Tonali.

Advertisements

Barella ended up joining Inter from Cagliari last summer in a deal worth €12m for the loan and another €25m to buy outright.

“He was one of my favourites. I tried to bring him to Roma as soon as possible, but unfortunately I wasn’t able to get it done,” Totti told TV presenter Paolo Bonolis in an Instagram Live interview.

Although he is no longer working for Roma, but acting as a freelance talent scout, who would Totti like to snap up now?

“I’d do anything to get Tonali. In my view, he’ll become one of the best midfielders in the world. He has everything that a great player should have – technically gifted, good mentality and is always sharp in any situation.”

Brescia are asking for €50m, but Tonali is still admired by Inter, Juventus, Milan, Roma, Napoli, Chelsea, Arsenal and PSG.

Serie A will still be relegations & promotions with 20 teams

Advertisements

The COVID-19 pandemic is moving into Phase Two from May 4, with deaths, intensive care admissions and positive cases all dropping rapidly.

Advertisements

Nonetheless, the Minister for Sport Vincenzo Spadafora has warned Serie A will not be allowed to resume unless there is a full agreement on the medical protocol.

A videoconference was held today between various unions, including the Players’ Association, Coaches’ Association, Referees’ Association and FIGC.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the outcome was Plan B, assuring that if the season is terminated early, there will nonetheless be promotions and relegations this summer.

That means next term the Serie A season will continue to have 20 clubs, as there had been an option to not relegate anyone and promote two from Serie B, creating a 22-side structure.

Another upshot was that if UEFA change their limit of August 2 for the domestic tournaments to conclude, then they are prepared to continue the 2019-20 season well into August and even September.

Juve & Inter in talks with Werner’s agents over a potential move

Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia transfer market expert Gianluca Di Marzio has revealed that the representatives of RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner are in talks with both Inter and Juventus.

Werner has been one of the most prolific goalscorers in European football in recent seasons and with him having a release clause of €60 million he is even more attractive to other clubs.

In a question and answer session with the broadcaster, Di Marzio revealed that Werner will depart the German Bundesliga club in the coming months.

“I know that Timo Werner will leave Leipzig and his agents are working to find a move for him. His agents are speaking with Juventus and Inter,” he explained.

He also admitted to being unsure as to whether Champions League holders Liverpool are in talks with his representatives given the abundance of attacking firepower they already have.

Napoli to go all in for Icardi if PSG don’t sign him from Inter

‘Lautaro will just be a sub at Barcelona’

Lautaro Martinez would not be guaranteed to start at Barcelona and should stay with Inter for the time being, according to Fabio Capello.

Advertisements

Barca are keen to bring the Argentine striker to Camp Nou as they aim to reform their front line for next season, and intend to offer him a contract worth €10 million (£9m/$11m) a year as they make him their number one priority in the transfer window.

The club already have a wealth of attacking riches, including Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Ousmane Dembele, Antoine Griezmann, and the returning Philippe Coutinho from his loan spell at Bayern Munich – while they are also keen to bring Neymar back having sold him to Paris Saint-Germain in 2017 for a world-record fee.

While Barca have indicated they are willing to sell in order to bring in Lautaro, former AC Milan, Real Madrid and England coach Capello feels he would progress better if he stayed under the management of Antonio Conte at San Siro.

In an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport , Capello said: “If I were him, I would stay at Inter, because at Barca he would be a substitute.”

Advertisements

Currently all transfers have been placed into a perennial state of uncertainty because of the coronavirus, which has caused the postponement of all football across Europe, and the cancellation of some leagues including the top-flight seasons in the Netherlands and Belgium.

It is unclear when the transfer windows will open, and if clubs will be able to afford the huge fees seen in recent seasons, with the lack of matchday revenue and television income causing economic uncertainty across football.

Capello feels that almost every team in Spain will be financially affected – including Barcelona – and that the transfer market will be heavily impacted with much lower fees.

Advertisements

He said: “It seems to me that, economically, in Spain the only team that will not be destroyed in this pandemic is Real Madrid. Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are going to suffer a lot.

“The market will be revolutionised. Absurd numbers have been reached for the transfers. We will return to a more reasonable level. Smart managers will be necessary to fix the system. Egotism can be fatal.”
