Barcelona sets bid for Sadio Mané

Sadio Mane is open to a move to Barcelona after wanting more than what his role at Liverpool currently offers, according to reports in Spain.

The Senegal international has become a fundamental figure at Anfield having helped the club win the Premier League and Champions League in the last two seasons by forming a devastating front three with Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.

However, Mundo Deportivo now claim that he is willing to link up with his former boss at Southampton, Ronald Koeman, at the Catalan giants after feeling his pursuit of individual honours at Anfield cannot be fulfilled.

Koeman and Mane spent two years together at St Mary’s, where the Dutchman helped mentor the striker who went on to score 25 goals in 75 games before earning his move to Liverpool.

The report states that Mane accepts he has won the respect of people having won trophies in England, but feels that he is not being given the individual respect he deserves after helping his side to their maiden Premier League title with his 18 league goals last season.

The Spanish outlet also adds that Mane feels that no matter how hard he works or how much commitment he shows, he believes the reward always goes to team-mate Salah or captain Jordan Henderson.

The report also adds that while Mane’s maintains a good relationship with Reds boss Jurgen Klopp, it is not what it once was and is another factor in his decision to be open to a move to Barcelona, regardless of whether Lionel Messi stays or not.

Mane also reportedly sees this period as an excellent time to test himself in LaLiga as Barcelona’s transitional stage begins under Dutchman Koeman, having admired the club since the days of Ronaldinho.

However, the report acknowledges that Barcelona would have to pay £107m (€120m) to sign Mane, which is an amount they cannot afford having splashed out heavily on the likes of Ousmane Dembele, Antoine Griezmann and Philippe Coutinho in recent years.

Barcelona are keen to add a centre-forward to their ranks however with Koeman informing Luis Suarez in no uncertain terms that he is free to leave Barcelona this summer.

The Catalan giants have also been linked with a move for Lyon star, Memphis Depay, who admitted he could be open to leaving after the Ligue 1 side’s failure to qualify for the Champions League.

Van Dijk, Mane and Salah make EA Sports’ PL Team of the Season so far

Advertisements

Liverpool stars Virgil van Dijk, Sadio Mane and Mo Salah are among three of seven players from the club to make it into EA Sports’ Team of the Season So Far.

Club captain Jordan Henderson, fullbacks Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson and goalkeeper Alisson were the other members of Jurgen Klopp’s side to make the 20-man squad.

Wolves winger Adama Traore and Sheffield United goalkeeper Dean Henderson – who was rated the lowest with 88 – were also included in the team, but there was no place for Tottenham and England striker Harry Kane.

The England captain was ruled out of action two months before the coronavirus crisis caused football matches to be postponed.

However, teammate Heung-min Son did make the cut, as did forwards from all but one of the so-called ‘Top Six’.

They came in the form of Arsenal and Manchester City strikers Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Sergio Aguero – who were both rated 96- as well as Leicester’s Jamie Vardy and Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford.

Man City, Leicester and Man United all had at least one other representative, with midfield dynamos Riyad Mahrez and Kevin De Bruyne – who was joint-highest rated on 99 with Van Dijk – included for Pep Guardiola’s men.

Meanwhile, Caglar Soyuncu was the other Foxes’ player named and Aaron Wan-Bissaka joined Rashford as Man United’s other representative.

Chelsea and Everton were also represented by a solitary player, with Blues midfielder Mateo Kovacic and Toffees forward Richarlison also included.

If Mane joins Barcelona he’d have to overcome Messi’

Sadio Mane has no need to leave Liverpool for Barcelona, says John Aldridge, as the Reds are better than the Liga giants and the Senegalese would have to “overcome Lionel Messi” if he moved to Camp Nou.

The former Reds striker told the Liverpool Echo: “The release of the documentary tracking the career and life story of Liverpool forward Sadio Mane has got people talking.

“Not least the part where he makes a vow to people in his Senegalese home town that he will win the Ballon d’Or.

“That declaration has prompted suggestions from several people that the only way Mane can realise his dream is by leaving Anfield and heading to Spain to join either Barcelona or Real Madrid.

“I can see what they are saying. In recent times, almost every award has been won by Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo. That they have played for Barca or Real at the time has been coincidental.

“It has been unfortunate for so many great players that they have found themselves in an era with Messi and Ronaldo. To finish above them, you have got to have done something unbelievably special.

“Liverpool, though, shouldn’t be too worried about Mane’s situation.

“They have never before been in such a strong position to be able to keep hold of their best players. Indeed, now would be the worst time for them to start potentially cashing in.

“Mane has probably been our best player this season. And what’s more, he can get even better next season and perhaps even win the Champions League again.

“What’s more, Liverpool are a better team than either Barcelona or Real at present.

“When things are going well, you just have to enjoy it, and I’m sure Mane has been over the past 18 months.

“That said, if players really want to leave, then it’s hard to keep them in the modern era.

“But Mane doesn’t seem the type. Whenever I’ve spoken to him, he seems very humble, and doesn’t seem someone who would agitate for a move like other players such as Fernando Torres.

“And don’t forget, even if the Reds forward moves to Barcelona, for example, he’d still have to overcome Messi.

“Mane can win the Ballon d’Or as he’s a great player. And he has as much chance winning it while at Liverpool than anywhere else.”

Mane, who joined Liverpool from Southampton in the summer of 2016, has scored 77 goals for the Reds in 161 appearances and is tied to a contract through to 2023.

Sadio Mané Expected to Remain at Liverpool Despite Real Madrid Links

Sadio Mané’s long-term future is likely to be at Liverpool, despite being linked with a move to Real Madrid.

The Liverpool winger has gone from strength to strength this season, further establishing himself as one of Jürgen Klopp’s key men. Having scored 77 goals in under four seasons since he left Southampton for the Reds, he’s performing at a much higher level than Real Madrid’s wingers have been over the past few terms.

COVID-19: Mane donate £41k to SHO to help fight pandemic.

Liverpool of England and Senegal striker Saido Mane has donated a whooping £41,000 to a health organization fighting the spread of coronavirus in Senegal as the West African nation comes to grips with the global pandemic.

Senegal has 27 confirmed cases of the deadly virus, with two recoveries and according to the player’s agent who spoke to BBC, the CAF player of the year made the donations ‘spontaneously’

Mane also took to social media to tell Senegalese people to take the virus ‘extremely seriously’, before giving them tips on how to avoid the disease by applying ‘disinfectant or wash their hands for at least 30 seconds’.

Senegalese officials announced Monday the suspension of flights between the West African country and several countries in Europe (France, Belgium, Spain, Portugal and Italy) and in the Northern Africa (Algeria, Tunisia) while Morocco already announced the suspension of flights with Senegal.

Liverpool 3-2 West Ham: Report, Ratings & Reaction as Leaders Survive Hammers Scare

Latest: Timo werner speak on Liverpool links ahead summer move

RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner has admitted that he is honoured to be linked with Liverpool, but hinted that he may not be ready to make the move.

The Reds are believed to be on the lookout for attacking reinforcements this summer, and Werner has been touted as one of their top targets.

Links to Werner have grown and grown in recent weeks, and the striker himself has clearly noticed them. He told Viasport that he was delighted with the rumours, but was eager to distance himself from a possible transfer.

“I know Liverpool is the best team in the moment in the world,” Werner said. “When you’re linked with that team it makes me very proud.

“But in case of that, it’s a pleasure but I know at Liverpool there are a lot of good players and I know I have to improve myself to learn much more things to get on this level to play there.”

He’s not wrong about the strength of Liverpool’s squad. Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mané have formed perhaps the most devastating attacking trio around, so forcing his way into the team could be a difficult task for Werner.

After scoring in Wednesday’s 1-0 win over Tottenham, Werner took his tally for the season to 26 goals in 32 appearances this season. That form, coupled with the fact that he is expected to have a release clause of no more than €60m, has made him a wanted man.

Alongside Liverpool, Chelsea have been heavily linked with a move for the 23-year-old, while Atlético Madrid are also thought to have expressed an interest.

If Werner does decide to leave Leipzig this summer, he will likely have plenty of options to choose between, and it could come down to which team can offer him the most minutes in the team.

At the moment, it looks like Liverpool might struggle in that regard. It’s hard to see Jürgen Klopp dropping any of Salah, Firmino or Mané, but the boss might have a few tricks up his sleeve to convince Werner to sign

Mane always copying all I do – Firmino

Liverpool forward, Roberto Firmino has said that his Senegalese teammate, Sadio Mane, copies everything he (Firmino) does.

Mane, copying the goal celebrations of Firmino, has become essential viewing for the Reds fans.

The Brazil international has revealed that Mane had jokingly claimed to actually invented the goal celebrations.

Firmino has always celebrated his goals different ways and Mane is regularly one of the first to congratulate him.

“I always say to (Sadio) that he copies my celebrations, he copies everything that I do!” Fiirmino was quoted by the Independent, UK.

“It’s really funny, we talk about it a lot after games.

“He says he doesn’t copy me that he creates them. It’s cool and funny. He said he invented that celebration (the way down to one side) as I do it with one hand and he does it with two!

“He has grown in confidence on the pitch and I think it’s to do with adapting. We’ve been playing together here for almost four years now.”

Madrid makes “contact” with liverpool’s star

…Real Madrid ‘Make First Contact’ With Liverpool Star Over Potential Summer Transfer

Real Madrid have “made contact” with Sadio Mané’s representatives – according to a French report – as the club plan for a future without Gareth Bale.

Mané has been in sensational form for Liverpool this season, bagging ten goals in the opening 18 Premier League matches, and his performances have helped the Reds gain a huge lead at the top of the table.

Sadio Mané

Le10Sport however suggest that Real are keen to prise Mané away from Anfield once the season is over. They are reported to have made contact with the player and his representatives, while the French outlet even hint that Zinedine Zidane has already spoken to the player.

Los Merengues are in the hunt for a new world-class forward in the summer, and with superstars Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez likely to leave the Bernabeu in the near future, Madrid will potentially have the funds available to lure Mané to Spain. Whether the player will be tempted is unknown at this point.

Zidane is said to be a huge admirer of the ex-Southampton man, and the Frenchman would like to partner his dream transfer target with current striker Karim Benzema.

It also states that talks have taken place to lay the foundations for a possible summer move, and Zidane is said to have outlined his desire to recruit the Senegalese star while in the discussions with Mané. We would like to however temper this report with a quick reminder of the fact that it is January, and the transfer window opened today. Speculation is inevitable.

There have been few suggestions elsewhere that the Liverpool star is unsettled or keen to leave Anfield, and he has thrived during his time under boss Jurgen Klopp, transforming into one of the best players in the world.

Mané has struck up a fearsome strike-force with fellow forwards Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah, who have fired the free-scoring Reds to the top of the Premier League.

Liverpool lifted the Champions League trophy last season – one year after their 3-1 defeat to Madrid in the previous year’s final. Mané scored in that match against los Merengues, and he has gone on to become one of Klopp’s most pivotal players

Leaked: Liverpool New Balance Kits For 2020/21.

Images of Liverpool kits designed by New Balance for the 2020/21 campaign that will never actually be released have been leaked online, showing what the Reds could have been wearing next season had they not switched their contract to Nike.

Liverpool kits have been manufactured by New Balance since 2015, but with the contract ending this year, the club sought to agree a new partnership with Nike.

FBL-QAT-FIFA-CLUB-WORLD-CUP-MONTERREY-LIVERPOOL
New Balance contested it, claiming their existing contract entitled them to a renewal if they matched a rival offer. The case went to the high court, but the judge sided with Liverpool, enabling the club to drop New Balance and go ahead with the new Nike deal.

Nike’s offer comes with the promise of far greater marketing reach, including the use of global superstar athletes from other sports – the likes of LeBron James and Serena Williams – partnering with Liverpool to promote the club’s merchandise.

Yet New Balance were seemingly already well prepared to continue because pictures of home, away, third and goalkeeper kits have appeared on social media.

Images of the designs were shared by a Twitter user by the name of @KBX2. Alongside a red home shirt featuring a subtle pattern was a yellow away strip and a dark third kit featuring a vibrant trim. There is also a black goalkeeper shirt with grey and red trim.

The designs each feature subtle extra detailing, such as club slogans printed on the inside of the badge – the home kit was to feature the lyrics from ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ on the inside of the collar.

Salah Takes Liverpool Into Premier League Victory.

Liverpool moved 11 points clear at the top of the Premier League thanks to Mohamed Salah’s double, but had some wasteful finishing from bottom-of-the-table Watford to thank for a 2-0 victory at Anfield.

The Hornets remain six points adrift of safety, but will wonder how they headed home empty handed after enjoying the vast majority of the chances against the European champions.

Salah produced the two moments of real quality from Jurgen Klopp’s men by finishing off from a rapid counter-attack from a Watford corner to open the scoring before flicking home a second a minute from time.

Nigel Pearson was taking charge of Watford for the first time and the impetus of a new manager showed with the 40-point difference between the sides at opposite ends of the table not in evidence in their performances.

However, the big difference was obvious in both boxes as the league’s lowest scorers passed up a host of huge opportunities, whilst Salah was deadly.

Only Watford’s profligacy allowed Liverpool to keep a first clean sheet at Anfield all season as Troy Deeney just failed to reach a teasing cross across the face of goal before Will Hughes dragged a shot just side.

Abdoulaye Doucoure then completely miscued with the goal at his mercy from Etienne Capoue’s clever cut-back with what incredibly was only the second most embarrassing mishit of the half from Watford.

After so many missed chances, the visitors were made to pay by the ruthless runaway leaders as 15 seconds after a Watford corner, the ball was in their net.

All three of Liverpool’s attacking trident were involved as Roberto Firmino’s pass over his head freed Sadio Mane down the left and he fed Salah to cut inside on his weaker right foot to bend the ball brilliantly into the far corner.

Watford should still have been level before the break when Ismaila Sarr somehow also failed to connect with Alisson Becker grounded after parrying Gerard Deulofeu’s cross.

Sarr was wasteful again at the start to the second half as he blasted straight at Alisson with Deeney pleading for a cross.

Liverpool’s extra quality in the final third was in evidence once more when Mane headed in from Xherdan Shaqiri’s cross, but the Senegalese’s celebrations were cut short when the goal was ruled out by a VAR for the most marginal of offside calls.

That handed Pearson’s men a lifeline, but again they failed to take their chance to capitalise when Deulofeu broke clean through on goal only for Alisson to save once more.

This was Liverpool’s seventh game in a run of 15 matches in 50 days across five competitions and the strain on Jurgen Klopp’s squad was not only shown in a jaded display but another injury blow.

Georginio Wijnaldum limped off on the hour mark and could now be a doubt for the Reds’ attempt to win the Club World Cup in Qatar later this week.

However, Liverpool will travel to the Middle East in buoyant mood even if Leicester manage to cut their double-digit lead back to eight points when the Foxes host Norwich later on Saturday.

Salah made sure of the points late on with an imaginative finish to turn home Divock Origi’s mishit shot.

Messi says Liverpool Sadio Mane should have been higher in ballon d’or.

…expresses his dissatisfaction as mane finished as 4th

Lionel Messi has expressed his dissatisfaction after Senegalese and Liverpool forward Sadio Mane finished fourth in the Ballon d’Or rankings earlier this week.

The Barcelona superstar won the Ballon d’Or for the sixth time in his career in Paris on Monday, after edging out Virgil van Dijk and Cristiano Ronaldo to claim the gong. Sadio Mane came fourth while Mohamed Salah was placed in fifth.

Messi who voted Mane as his preferred candidate for The Best award, has now praised the Liverpool forward, saying It’s a shame to see that he finished fourth in the Ballon d’Or ranking.

‘It’s a shame to see Mane finish in fourth place,’ Messi told Canal+.

‘But I think there have been a lot of great players this year. That’s why it was difficult to choose a particular player. But I chose Sadio Mane (for The Best award) because he’s a player that I like.

‘Mane achieved a great year that was exceptional for the entire Liverpool team. That’s why I chose him.

‘I repeat, there were a lot of very great players this year, so the choice was difficult.’
