Pop-star Azeez Fashola, more known as Naira Marley, and his manager, Seyi Awouga, have pleaded guilty to violating a COVID-19 lockdown order in Lagos.
According to a police statement on Thursday, the duo was “awarded a fine of one hundred thousand naira each by the presiding Magistrate.”
Noble Reporters Media learnt how Naira Marley had embarked on a non-essential trip from Lagos to Abuja in June amid the coronavirus pandemic.
He travelled from “Lagos to Abuja and back to Lagos the same date, through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja for a musical concert in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja,” the police statement, signed by spokesman Bala Elkana, said.
The police said Naira Marley was charged to the Lagos State Special Offences (Mobile) Court, Oshodi under “the order made by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria under Regulation 4(i) of the Lagos State Infectious Disease Emergency Prevention) Regulation No 2 of 2020 and committed an offence punishable under Section 58 Public Health Law, Ch. P16, Laws of Lagos State 2015.”
The federal government had suspended the airline, Executive Jet Services, which flew the artist, although the ban has now been lifted.
On April 9, Naira Marley signed an undertaking to join the Lagos state government’s campaign against the spread of COVID-19 after he was charged for breaching the state’s social distancing directive.

Controversial Nigerian singer, Azeez Fashola who is popularly known as Naira Marley gifted actor Jude Chukwuka N1 million for singing his song word for word.
The veteran actor became an internet sensation over the weekend when he voiced Naira Marley’s song, ‘Mafo’ word for word.
The singer immediately initiated a search for the actor, asking his followers to help him located him. He promised to gift him N1million.

This was made known by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Muhammad Bello on Tuesday June 16.
According to a statement released by the Minister’s Chief Press Secretary Anthony Ogunleye, Bello stated that the FCT Administration views the actions of the organisers and attendees at the concert as reckless, wicked, insensitive and utter disrespect and disregard both for the law and the wellbeing and welfare of fellow citizens.
Muhammad Bello urged residents of the FCT to observe health guidelines outlined by authorities as he pointed out that several guidelines instituted by the FCT administration to curb the spread of Coronavirus, was violated at the drive-in concert. He said;
“The FCT Administration which has a responsibility to protect the lives of the citizenry is determined to prosecute all those involved in orchestrating these infractions to the full extent of the law”.
The concert has caused controversies online, with Jabi Lake Mall being shut down by the FCT administration following a mobile court’s judgment, and Executive Jet Services seeing their license being suspended.
Recall with NRM that the Chairman/CEO of Executive Jet Services, Sam Iwuajoku in his apology letter to the Minister of Aviation said the flight Naira Marley and his crew boarded was meant for a Judge. He said the Judge however reached Abuja on a different flight.
He added that after his staff sent a passenger manifest bearing the name Fashola Babatunde, he felt it was a serving minister of the federal republic of Nigeria not knowing it was a “bunch of useless people”.

ExecuJets has been suspended by the Minister of Aviation Hadi Sirika for violating the ban on interstate travel in COVID-19 era, after airlifting Marley and his crew to Abuja for a drive-in concert that panned out differently.
Responding to the Backlash’s and criticisms from Nigerians, the airline released and official note, which reads;
“WHEN I WENT THROUGH THE MANIFEST AND I SAW FASHOLA BABATUNDE I THOUGHT IT WAS THE HONORABLE MINISTER OF WORKS GOING TO ABUJA WITH HIS MEN, SO WE DECIDED TO DO THE FLIGHT SINCE IT IS A SERVING MINISTER OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA, I DIDN’T KNOW IT WAS A BUNCH OF USELESS PEOPLE,” EXECUJET’S CEO, SAM IWUAJOKU, WROTE IN AN APOLOGY LETTER TO THE AVIATION MINISTER.
In his reaction, Naira Marley says he and his army of Marlians will be boycotting the airline company henceforth for daring to tag them “useless.”
